Thirty-year-old South African jockey Keagan de Melo will be joining the Hong Kong jockey ranks next season.

De Melo, a seven-time G1 winner, currently holds a 39-win lead in the South African jockeys’ premiership race with just over one month remaining in the season. He has been licensed until February 12, 2024. De Melo goes to scale at 116 pounds.

Additionally, Australian jockeys Brenton Avdulla and Luke Currie have been granted part-season licenses that also expire on February 12. However, Michael Dee has chosen not to re-apply for a license and will conclude his term.

The licensing committee has confirmed the retirement of three local jockeys – Alex Lai, Victor Wong, and Jack Wong – at the end of the season.
