10 June Penang Racing Preview by Mark Lydeamore

RACE 1

GURNEY DRIVE (1) was a beaten favorite here at the last meeting in soft going after copping a slight bump at the start. Carries the same weight and can atone for that defeat. EL PRIMERO (2) closed off well and appears ready to strike after several runs back in Class 5 grade. SUNNY STAR (6) ran home resolutely after a slow beginning on April 30 when finishing 2nd, beaten a head and should benefit from the freshen up. MYSTICAL STAR (9) has not won for over a year but has been running home well in recent starts.

RACE 2

LEGACY ROAR (1) returns from a bleeding attack and if he recaptures the form he displayed when arriving in the country last year, he should prove hard to beat. RULE THE WORLD (6) gains a big weight advantage and is yet to miss a place in five starts on the track. GENERAL NIX (2) had no luck when caught wide throughout in KL but is a proven Class 4 performer. The distance may be a slight query. MAGIC CITY (5) can be hard to follow at times but his best form is over the 1400m trip.

RACE 3

BIG DOCTOR (2) tended to over race and appeared uncomfortable when he had to be held up in the KL G1 Tunku Gold Cup a fortnight ago. Has won 3 from 3 on this track and is ideally placed to strike back. GRAND CROSS (1) also comes out of that group contest and was far from disgraced when placed 5th, beaten 1.25L. The 10yo veteran can never be underestimated. MOONGATE LIGHT (4) has been competitive in the high graded races in KL and returns to Penang where he’s won twice from four starts. Looks a trifecta chance second up from a spell. LIM’S DASHING (5) is rarely far away despite not winning from nine starts this year.

RACE 4

LADY ASTA (8) finally broke the maiden tag at start number nineteen when leading throughout here on May 27. She will utilize her early pace again and might prove hard to beat over the shorter trip. TK STAR (4) always attracts market support and received every chance in that race won by LADY ASTA (8) last start. BRIGHT SUN (11) is yet to win from five runs in the country but gets in well on the minimum. D’GREAT EFFORT (7) has not won for three and a half years but showed a glimpse of improvement when making up ground to finish 2nd over 1200m here at the last meeting.
