HEARING OF AN APPEAL BY JOCKEY I SAIFUDIN AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS AND THE PENALTY IMPOSED ON HIM AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF A CHARGE UNDER MRA RULE 44(10) RELATING TO HIS RIDING OF ACE SOVEREIGN IN RACE 4 AT THE SINGAPORE TURF CLUB MEETING ON SUNDAY, 16 APRIL 2023

On Wednesday, 19 April 2023, the Stewards found Jockey I Saifudin (pictured) guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The specifics of the charge being:

  • he did fail to ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination in the straight.

2                      In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge, his disciplinary record, personal circumstances, precedent penalties and submissions from Jockey Saifudin that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meeting on Sunday, 23 April 2023.  In all the circumstances, Jockey Saifudin’s Licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of three months from Sunday, 04 June 2023 until Sunday, 03 September 2023 both dates inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

3                      On Thursday, 20 April 2023, Jockey Saifudin exercised his Right of Appeal against the decision of the Stewards and the penalty imposed on him.  He subsequently applied for a Stay of Sentence.  After giving consideration to the matter on Friday, 21 April 2023, his application for a Stay of Sentence was granted by the Panel of Stewards.

4                      The Appeal Panel’s Hearing of the Appeal was concluded on Wednesday, 31 May 2023.

5                      After considering all of the evidence together with submissions from Jockey Saifudin, Mr Christopher Bock, Trainer T Fitzsimmons’ Assistant Trainer, and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Appeal Panel upheld the Appeal.  His deposit was to be refunded.
