Well-bred newcomers RAINBOW LORIKEET, HANGING ROCK, SILENT WINTER and PINEAPPLEMINTGREEN must be respected, especially if the market speaks in their favour.

WHAT A STATE is consistent and likely to be involved again. She is closely matched on recent form with stablemates DISTINCTION and PACIFIC GREEN who should, therefore, also be involved. Both DIFFERENT FACE and SONIC BURST are dangerous off their current marks so cannot be discounted either.

Race Summary: MONUMENTAL didn’t enjoy a smooth trip when winning over this trip last time but sliced through the field in the manner of a smart sort, so it could pay to follow his progress. MY GOLLY MOLLY caught the eye in behind and should get closer from gate No 1 on 3kg better terms, though a bigger threat is likely to come from fellow last-start winners SPRING PALACE, who ought to have come on since that comeback victory, and debut scorer PARATROOPER with natural improvement expected. HLUHLUWE, APPROACH SHOT and, albeit to a lesser degree, AVIGNON and SPIRIT’S UNITE complete the shortlist.

LILY OF THE NILE was not disgraced in 2yo feature over 1100m last time and is worth another chance back over the distance of her maiden win with Grant van Niekerk back aboard. SIDDELEY has done little wrong racing up the straight and, on pedigree, could have more to offer over this trip. Maidens WINDRUNNER, ANALYTIC and WOMAN’S WORLD get weight from those principal contenders and should be competitive if building on improved last starts. GREEN VALKYRIE has another tricky draw to contend with but has the form and experience to stake a claim.

Well-bred youngster SNOW PILOT is talented and, despite a wide draw, could also stake a claim in the finish with the extra 200m likely to unlock further improvement.

DONDER STORM was rewarded for his consistency with an overdue maiden at the 21st attempt and could make his presence felt under a lightweight. MISTER MONOCLE and CORONATION TIME are closely matched, though the former could turn the tables on these terms and with the winter course likely to suit his frontrunning style. SILVER SKY is held on that form but has dropped in the ratings to a dangerous mark and ought to pose more of a threat at the weights. KEEP SHINING isn’t taken lightly either.

SILENT TRIGGER is also better off at the weights with that rival so ought to be competitive too. DOUBLING UP has been lightly raced and has scope to improve over this shorter trip. Both KATSU and AUGUSTA BLUE caught the eye last time over 1400m and could have more to offer over the extra. BARDOLINO is not written off either.

DEAN STREET is inconsistent but more than capable of making his presence felt too. Both RAGNAR LOTHBROK and BLUFF ON BLUFF are probably better over 1000m but could get a look-in too. BARZALONA appears the pick of the Bass-Robinson coupling on riding arrangements, but PIROSHKA may well fare better.
