27 May Penang Racing Preview by Mark Lydeamore

RACE 1

CAPE LINCOLN (5) has been languishing near the bottom of Class 5 for several months now and gets his chance to break through for the first time in just over 12 months. Apprentice Z Syafifie (3kg claim) was aboard MY AIM (1) when it won at Ipoh earlier this year and will be reacquainted with the gelding which is second up from the break. MYSTICAL STAR (7) is a moderate beginner but closed off well when finishing 4th here last week. PENANG GENERAL (8) is still a maiden after 30 starts but made ground when placed last start.

RACE 2

SUNNY FIGHTER (5) backs up from his fast finishing 2nd in KL and looks suited back on home turf. GURNEY DRIVE (1) was never a factor from a wide draw last time but has posted 2 wins this year and draws much better. SACRED GALAXY (2) was back in winning form two weeks ago and is a chance despite the 4 kg rise. RAISE ME UP (3) is second up but has been racing well this grade over past year.

RACE 3

SACRED GURU (2) will be resuming but looks well placed on the handicaps following some encouraging performances in Class 3 company earlier this year. Stable mate UNDER OATH (3) should settle on speed and races well at this track. GEORGETOWN (4) does tend to mix his form but R Rueven has ridden the gelding to five victories which keeps him under notice. GALILEO’S APPROACH (5) was an Ipoh mile winner in February and has maintained solid form since then.

RACE 4

ASIAN JET (7) looks a chance of going back to back in what looks to be a winnable race on form. D’GREAT EFFORT (6) has slid down the ratings but can improve despite not winning since September 2019. LIM’S PIPER (3) is coming off some ordinary form lines but looked sharp in his Ipoh trial during the week as he debuts for the K Coetzee stable. BIG BUS (9) improved in KL last Sunday after descending to a career low rating.

RACE 5

TK STAR (1) backs up a week after his 4th placing here in soft going when attracting plenty of market support and goes up 3kg. BRIGHT SUN (3) hasn’t been far away in four local runs and looks ready to display her best form. TOP TURF (2) took 59 starts to finally break the maiden tag and a repeat performance would not surprise. LOYALTY’S ANGEL (6) has scored once in 89 starts but is always a trifecta chance for the minor placings.
