South Africa Racing – JP is going on a Hunting Trip

There are some interesting races all day at Fairview on Friday but probably the pick of the Justin Snaith-trained runners is filly Hunting Trip in Race 7, the Milkwood Stakes over 1000m.

Hunting Trip has got on well with current rider JP van der Merwe as he was aboard both of her recent wins.

The Trippi filly won twice in 2022 but it is this year and particularly recently, that she has really hit her straps and her last two wins were impressive.

She gave 5kg and a beating to She’s My Captain in March and nearly a month later she followed up by beating rival in this Body Electric by a length. Interestingly, Hunting Trip is 3.5kg better off with Body Electric.

The Snaith yard could have a good meeting and Savic in Race 3 could also prove a bit better than her rivals.

The Lancaster Bomber filly has yet to win but has been runner-up three times already and to some decent rivals.

Golden Sickle beat her 1.25 lengths in December 2022 and that runner has advertised her form with some good feature-race form since then.

Savic was recently runner-up behind both Paris Lass and Three Rocks and both those fillies are talented.

Savic steps up in distance to 1400m and that should suit her.

Gavin Smith’s star three-year-old, Khaya’s Hope, missed some expected feature races recently but makes his comeback in Race 5, the Fairview 1400 over 1400m, and he can extend a recent unbeaten run to five.

He has three out of four wins over the course and distance and from a good draw of No 5 and with S’manga Khumalo aboard he will run a big race.

The best bet on this card comes up in Race 1 and Khumalo will be on that as well. Questor has found one better in both starts but does look a stand-out bet in a weak race.
