Race Preview

R1 – PRIX DE LA SEINE – 2200m (a1 3/8m) – TURF – Condition Race – Listed – Flat – EUR € 55.000

1. KHAHIRA – Consistent for the most part but is more effective at a lower level and has it all to do
here. Others preferred
2. LOUVE STORY – Improving last-start winner who could prove up to the task of this steep rise in
class. Should have more to offer stretching out over this trip, so has claims
3. A MINARDIERE – Improved with blinkers on to win over 2200m last time but will need to eke out
more to be competitive here. Outsider
4. IZNIK – Progressive filly with solid form credentials. Beaten for the first time this season when
4th at Group III level last month and can get back to winning ways here
5. ENGALIWE – Has made smart progress on the PSF this term, winning consecutive handicap
starts on that surface recently. Must confirm back on the turf
6. ADELIADE – Finished well to take 3rd on her reappearance at Saint-Cloud and is likely to be
even better going up in trip. Has a role to play
7. PRECIOUS SEA – Shone at this level last year as a juvenile and is open to improvement this
term. Must not be discounted on her reappearance

Summary : A competitive Listed race to get things started. IZNIK (4) tasted defeat for the first time
in three starts this year when 4th in a Group III last month but can recapture the winning thread
here given this slight ease in grade. Improving last-start winner LOUVE STORY (2) jumps in class
but could pose a threat with further progress, which can also be said of ADELIADE (6) after an
encouraging comeback outing. PRECIOUS SEA (7) makes her belated reappearance but cannot
be discounted either. Good race!

SELECTIONS
IZNIK (4) – LOUVE STORY (2) – ADELIADE (6) – PRECIOUS SEA (7)

R2 – PRIX D’HEDOUVILLE – 2400m (a1 1/2m) – TURF – Group 3 – Group – Flat – EUR € 80.000

1. HAYA ZARK – Continues to blow hot and cold but is proven at this level and has the form to be
involved. On the shortlist
2. MUTABAHI – Runner-up on the PSF in his only start this year but has been absent that January
outing, so has a few questions to answer
3. GALASHIELS – Finished 5th in a Listed race over this course and distance on his reappearance.
Would’ve tightened up since so should have more to offer
4. OR GRIS – Reassuring 4th in a Listed race over this track and trip last time. Will need to confirm
that improvement to have a say here
5. KERTEZ – Consistent performer who has finished a pleasing 3rd in both comeback outings this
year. WIll play a leading role
6. KNOW THYSELF – Progressive last-start winner over this trip. Gets weight from her male rivals
so could give them something to fear

Summary : A small but quality field engaged in this Group III contest from which consistent
KERTEZ (5) could emerge victorious at the expense of HAYA ZARK (1) and GALASHIELS (3) who
are likely to be right in the fight. The only filly in the race KNOW THYSELF (6) is on the up and is
capable of making her presence felt too after a winning reappearance over this trip last month.
Good race!

SELECTIONS
KERTEZ (5) – HAYA ZARK (1) – GALASHIELS (3) – KNOW THYSELF (6)

R3 – BIG 5 – PRIX DES EPINETTES – 2100m (a1 5/16m) – TURF – Divised Handicap – Flat – EUR € 55.000

1. KOVANOF – Well-bred, progressive colt who opened his account in a handicap over course and
distance in his last start. More to come
2. GOGUEN SPAISE – Consistent colt with solid form references on the fibresand. Is probably
better on that surface but not incapable of staking a claim back on the turf
3. HAPTICS – At the top of his game at present and was last seen when finishing 2nd in a good
Class 1 race. Unexposed in handicaps, so could spring a suprise
4. SWISS MONEY – Not disgraced in his first start on the turf when 6th in good company and has
the profile to play a role on his handicap debut. No forlorn hope
5. MAGELLAN – Has turned the corner this year, winning consecutive handicap races recently
after finishing 2nd on his reappearance. Up 8kg as a result, so has more of a place chance than a
winning one
6. MOWGLI – Capable colt who has finished on the podium in both starts this year after joining
Laura Vanska and could do so again here. Not taken lightly
7. KLIFF BERE – Consistent for the most part and did finish 3rd in one of the reference races
leading up to this. Would need very soft ground to be seen at his full potential
8. BLAS – Made a very good start to life in the handicaps when 2nd at Marseille-Borely last time.
Takes on a lot stronger here so will need to raise his game
9. SPLENDINO – Improving last-start winner who could well prove better than rated. Makes his first
start in a handicap and on turf but is best kept safe
10. AZKA – Consistent with blinkers fitted, has caught the eye in 2 comeback starts and could be
leniently treated at the weights on handicap debut. Has claims
11. GRECIAN BONANZA – Useful colt with a good turn of foot, which he produced to finish 4th
over course and distance last time. Can get into the picture here
12. HIALEAH – Made a very good impression when winning a handicap on the turf last time, so
much so that she could defy a 4kg penalty and wide draw to win again. Include
13. ATTO DI FEDE – Absent since winning on the PSF at Pornichet in February and looks up it
against here on his handicap debut back on the turf. Watch for now
14. MONTGAUDRY – Showed encouraging signs of improvement at Evreux last time and with
further progress could get a look in here. Place chance
15. L’IBANETA – Gelded during the off-season, has returned to finish 2nd in both comeback runs
this year. Will enjoy a soft track so could have a say
16. COLADA FIRST – Scratched

Summary : HIALEAH (12) made a winning handicap debut in her first start on the turf at Chantilly
last time and is good value to follow up here despite a 4kg penalty and her wide No 16 draw.
KOVANOF (1) will have his followers too after winning a course-and-distance handicap recently
and a 3,5kg penalty is unlikely to prevent him from playing a leading role once more. Improving
SPLENDINO (9) is another last-start scorer with solid claims here and makes the trip to the SouthEast with legitimate ambitions. AZKA (10) has the form and experience to warrant inclusion, as
does GRECIAN BONANZA (11) who could enjoy the run of the race from a favourable inside gate.
MOWGLI (6), L’IBANETA (15) and GOGUEN SPAISE (2) are worth a mention and capable of
having a say.

SELECTIONS
HIALEAH (12) – KOVANOF (1) – SPLENDINO (9) – AZKA (10)

R4 – BIG 5 – PRIX GOLD RIVER – FONDS EUROPEEN DE L’ELEVAGE – 2800m (a1 3/4m) – TURF – Condition Race – Listed – Flat – EUR € 48.000

1. MELO MELO – Progressive filly who was supplemented for this engagement. Has claims back
against her own sex
2. LASTOTCHKA – Won a Listed race at Deauville over this trip last year. Undoubtedly capable
but has fitness concerns following a lengthy absence
3. FLYINGBEAUTY – Finished a reassuring 2nd last time in her second run back this year but will
need to raise her game to get a look in here
4. SEA THE SKY – Open to improvement after a much-needed comeback run but will need to do
so to get into the picture here
5. AUDE – Unreliable sort but is not incapable of staking a claim in a race of this nature. Dark horse
6. URBAN ARTIST – Not disgraced on her reappearance in a strong race at Goodwood. Can make
her presence felt
7. CALLIEPIE – Without a win after 5 starts and unlikely to open her account in this grade. Place
chance at best
8. GALIFA – Made a winning reappearance over 2500m at Evreux and could improve to play a role
over this trip. Outside chance
9. LA MEHANA – Made a promising comeback over a shorter trip and will have more to offer over
this distance. Leading player

Summary : After an encouraging comeback run over an inadequate trip, it could pay to follow the
progress of LA MEHANA (9) who should have more to offer over this longer distance and with
improved fitness on her side. LASTOTCHKA (2) has fitness concerns on her return after a 7-month
absence but boasts solid form references and may have also improved over the winter, so could
be up for the fight. UK raider URBAN ARTIST (6) and progressive MELO MELO (1) appeal most
of the remainder.

SELECTIONS
LA MEHANA (9) – LASTOTCHKA (2) – URBAN ARTIST (6) – MELO MELO (1)

R5 – BIG 5 – PRIX DE L’ATHENEE – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Condition Race – Class 2 – Flat – EUR € 27.000

1. WE RIDE THE WORLD – A consistent and versatile veteran who is capable of staking a claim
under a 1,5kg claimer. Dark horse
2. AXDAVALI – Consistent performer with solid form references and race fitness on his side. Will
be competitive
3. MY FANCY – Holding his form well and is likely to appreciate cutting back in distance. Can get
involved
4. PEACE WARRIOR – German colt who finished 2nd over 1600m in his first start on French soil
back in May last year. One to note
5. EARLY LIGHT – Consistent for the most part but is probably more effective on the PSF at a
lower level. Others preferred
6. AMEDRAS – Did not go unnoticed when finishing 3rd at Fontainebleau last time. Can get into
the picture
7. CELESTIN – Unreliable but is quite capable of playing a role in a race of this nature. Respect
8. NOW WE KNOW – Ended 2022 with back-to-back wins and is open to any amount of
improvement after the winter break. Respected on his reappearance
9. TOPGEAR – Preserved his unbeaten record when winning on his reappearance over 1400m.
Could have more to offer going a mile
10. RESHABAR – Undeniably capable and open to improvement after a comeback outing on the
PSF. Could surprise
11. LIKE MAGIC – Has nothing noteworthy to his name and can be ruled out. Hard to make a case
for

Summary : Unbeaten TOPGEAR (9) has been impressive in winning 4 starts from 1200m to
1400m and it could pay to follow his progress as he could have more to offer going a mile. He may,
however, need to do so as AXDAVALI (2) and MY FANCY (3) are likely to mount a serious winning
challenge. The returning NOW WE KNOW (8) is of particular interest too and cannot be
underestimated.

SELECTIONS
TOPGEAR (9) – AXDAVALI (2) – MY FANCY (3) – NOW WE KNOW (8)
