South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2023.04.23

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R125.000, 12:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. WOMAN’S WORLD improved to finish close-up over this trip last time and will be competitive with further progress. TICKET TO VEGAS, however, finished ahead of that rival over 1200m and could confirm from a good draw if improving over this distance. ROYALS has a bit to find on that form but should have more to offer stepping up in trip. Both GLAWARI and CAPTIVATE have shown enough to get involved but are drawn wide. FLAMBOYANT FLYER, RED MOON RISING and WINDRUNNER are likely to improve after modest introductions so are others to consider. Watch the betting on newcomer ETERNAL OPTIMIST.

Selections:

#1 Ticket To Vegas, #11 Woman’s World, #14 Glawari, #5 Royals

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R125.000, 13:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Open. KYOMAI showed signs of inexperience when finishing behind AVIGNON and LORD FYFIELD last time over this trip in yielding conditions but could improve to turn the tables from a better draw. ZIL MORIS is closely matched on that form and with further progress should make his presence felt. BIG FELLA and HLUHLUWE ought to improve with experience and over this distance, so could have a say. Well-related newcomer TOUCHDOWN is worth a market check and must be respected despite his wide draw.

Selections:

#4 Kyomai, #7 Lord Fyfield, #3 Zil Moris, #11 Avignon

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R125.000, 13:40GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. SUGAR MOUNTAIN returned to winning ways over 1400m recently and ought to be competitive again despite a 4-point penalty. BLACKBERRY MALT and consistent MONTIEN are weighted to reverse that form p.vmbdrawn wide. Stablemates KEEP IT SECRET and FUTURE TURN are in good form and likely to be competitive. FUTURE TURN, however, appears the pick of the 3 Snaith runners after reeling off a hat-trick over this trip. NARINA TROGON showed of what he is capable when beating a good field in a 1400m feature last time and should have more to come.

Selections:

#7 Future Swing, #8 Narina Trogon, #1 Sugar Mountain, #12 Montien

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R110.000, 14:15GMT+2

Race Summary: BARDOLINO finished 3rd in a race won by INTIMIDATOR (2.5kg worse off) over this trip before his 2nd in a stronger race last time and on that form should turn the tables on these revised terms. THUNDER MASTER also finished 2nd at a higher level in his most recent outing so ought to be competitive racing off the same mark. KELP FOREST, who is better off at the weights, and PROMETTERE could get into the picture as both should make further progress after their maiden wins. GIMME MORE TIME has finished 2nd at this level in his last 2 starts so cannot be ignored.

Selections:

#1 Bardolino, #2 Intimidator, #3 Thunder Master, #4 Kelp Forest

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R200.000, 14:50GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. MARINA is favourably treated by the conditions but is probably using this outing as a prep and is drawn widest, so could be worth opposing. Stable companions CIAO BELLA and KWINTA’S LIGHT are distance suited and likely to be competitive. The latter finished ahead of HAPPY CHANCE and GIMME’S LASSIE over 1200m last time and is weighted to confirm, but those rivals would’ve tightened up since and ought to pose more of a threat over this trip as a result. BROADWAY GIRL and GOLD POKER GAME are consistent and versatile too, so are not without a chance either. Good race!

Selections:

#2 Kwinta’s Light, #4 Ciao Bella, #8 Gimme’s Lassie, #9 Happy Chance

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R250.000, 15:25GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. BEREAVE beat several of these rivals when winning a Grade 2 over this track and trip at his last start and should confirm his superiority over MR COBBS, COUNTDOWN and RIO QUERARI on these terms. WE’RE JAMMING is also held on that form but capable of making his presence felt. GOING UP is better suited to this trip and could also get into the picture.

Selections:

#5 Bereave, #4 Rio Querari, #7 Countdown, #3 Mr Cobbs

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R300.000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Smashing race. GEM KING finished behind POMP AND POWER (G1 Cape Met) and PACAYA (Listed Jet Master Stakes) in feature races from wide draws before bouncing back to winning ways last time and, while unlikely to turn the tables on either, should acquit himself competitively, nonetheless on these terms. That Snaith-trained pair make the most appeal of the stable’s six runners. HOEDSPRUIT, WITHOUT QUESTION and filly SILVER DARLING have earning potential too given the favourable conditions of the race. KING REGENT needs to bounce back after letting the side down last time.

Selections:

#1 Pomp And Power, #5 Pacaya, #3 Without Question, #8 Gem King

Kenilworth, 23.04.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R110.000, 16:40GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. TOUCH OF GRACE has reeled off a hat-trick of course-and-distance wins and must defy a 6-point rise to extend her winning run. MISS MARGUERITE, however, has found form and consistency dropped in the ratings and this trip, after consecutive 3rd-place finishes over 1000m, should be to her liking. LITTLE MISS PINK is consistent but returns from a layoff, so a bigger threat is likely to come from WHERE’S THE PARTY who caught the eye over track and trip last time. ELLA’S DELIGHT was unlucky on that occasion so must not be written off, while MA BLACK is dangerous back on her last winning mark.

Selections:

#1 Miss Marguerite, #6 Touch Of Grace, #11 Where’s The Party, #13 Ma Black

Best Win: #5 BEREAVE

Best Value Bet: #1 MISS MARGUERITE

Best Longshot: #1 MISS MARGUERITE
