South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2023.04.19
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R140.000, 12:00GMT+2
Race Summary: TYRION LANNISTER was on debut when finishing ahead of SPEEDING BULLET in a 1200m sales race and could represent the value in the opener on 3kg better terms with natural improvement expected. BLUE HOLLY takes on the boys again and has more weight to shoulder but should be competitive. HARD WINTER, DUMBLEDORE and even POMPEI WARNING could get into the picture. PARATROOPER, RAPIDASH and GET IMPRESSED are well-bred newcomers worth a market check on debut.
Selections:
#1 Tyrion Lannister, #4 Speeding Bullet, #9 Blue Holly, #10 Get Impressed
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R140.000, 12:35GMT+2
Race Summary: GOLDEN SICKLE was outrun late in a 1200m feature last time having led for much of the way. On that evidence, the shorter trip should suit and she could prove hard to peg back. GREEN VALKYRIE and OCTOBER MORN caught the eye on debut and both are likely to have improved with that experience, so could get involved receiving 3kg. TRES CHIC was supported on debut and had excuses for her moderate showing, so shouldn’t be written off. ONI SAN, EASY MONEY and MORE THAN A DREAM have the form and experience to play a role too. Watch the betting on first-timers!
Selections:
#6 Golden Sickle, #8 Green Valkyrie, #9 October Morn, #12 Easy Money
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R125.000, 13:10GMT+2
Race Summary: FLEETING edged ahead of ACADEMIC GOLD (0,5kg better off) in a similar contest over 1600m recently and there shouldn’t be much between the pair again on these revised terms. Both BYE BYE BOMBSHELL and stablemate VERONICA MARS are better off at the weights so ought to make their presence felt. FOLLOW THE STAR could get into the picture too along with improving 3yo LOVE IS A ROSE.
Selections:
#3 Fleeting, #6 Academic Gold, #5 Bye Bye Bombshell, #2 Love Is A Rose
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R80.000, 13:50GMT+2
Race Summary: GO LIKE FLO and APPLE CATCHER have the form and experience to play leading roles – neither would be winning out of turn. Newcomers DREAMS GO BY and BO KAAP are bred to be useful and should be included, especially if the betting market speaks in their favour. SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, LADY RENEE, ELECTRIC FEELS and FUTURE CONTRACT all have earning potential but will need to improve if they are to open their account here.
Selections:
#5 Go Like Flo, #6 Apple Catcher, #8 Bo Kaap, #7 Dreams Go By
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100.000, 14:25GMT+2
Race Summary: Tricky. OLIVER and CONTIGUOUS won’t be maidens for too long and neither would be winning out of turn, though preference is for the former who caught the eye over this trip from a wide draw last time. Youngsters SIGNIFIER and SPIRIT’S UNITE are open to further progress so could have a say in the finish. RED WILLIAM and LAUGHING WILLIAM have the form and experience to play a role too. Newcomers ANALYTIC and DAWN CLOUD are drawn wide on debut but should not be discounted – watch the betting.
Selections:
#7 Oliver, #8 Contiguous, #13 Laughing William, #15 Dawn Cloud
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R125.000, 15:00GMT+2
Race Summary: A case can be made for every runner. ACT NATURALLY, QUEEN OF SPARTA and OSCAR’S WINNER caught the eye when staying on well over 1250m last time and this distance should be more to their liking. FUN ZONE and BONIKA have bounced back to form after finishing unplaced in a 1600m Grade 1. Both have good records at this level so ought to be competitive. Last-start winner MISS GREENLIGHT and consistent BUSY LIZZIE have been raised 2 points but will probably acquit themselves competitively once more. GIMMEAFIRST will be on the premises too.
Selections:
#4 Bonika, #7 Fun Zone, #1 Act Naturally, #2 Gimmeafirst
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R80.000, 15:35GMT+2
Race Summary: FALLO ANCORA has beaten several of these rivals before but finished behind MOTHERSHIP last time. She is 2,5kg better off though so should reverse that form on these terms. The same could be said of SUNLIT FROM HEAVEN who, with improved fitness on her side after that comeback run, could turn the tables. ON BOARD has been consistent and threatening to win over shorter distances, but could have more to offer stepping up to this trip. HANG OUT THE STARS has another wide draw to contend with but remains capable of better, especially with the blinkers removed.
Selections:
#9 On Board, #2 Fallo Ancora, #3 Sunlit From Heaven, #5 Mothership
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R125.000, 16:10GMT+2
Race Summary: Tricky. NIGHT RULER is weighted to turn the tables on stablemate ROYAL WATCH but is held on the form of a recent meeting with SUDDEN SONG and GLOBAL ALLY. He was, however, unlucky not to have finished closer last time so could atone. CHOLLIMA and FLOWER OF SAIGON are capable of making their presence felt off their current marks. COSMIC EVENT was used as the pacesetter in the Grade 1 Cape Derby over track and trip so his run there can be ignored. He should fare better in these calmer waters under just 54kg.
Selections:
#5 Cosmic Event, #1 Royal Watch, #6 Sudden Song, #2 Night Ruler
Kenilworth, 19.04.2023, Race 9, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R80.000, 16:45GMT+2
Race Summary: RUN RUDOLPH RUN is overdue and needs only to negotiate his wide draw to belatedly break his duck. AUTUMN MOON, DONDER STORM and GIMME THE BEST are held by that rival on the form of a recent meeting but are capable of posing more of a threat on these revised terms from better starting berths. GIMME THE BEST could also contest the finish after an improved last start when fitted with blinkers (retained here). FELIDAVIAN could surprise dropping back into a maiden race.
Selections:
#13 Run Rudolph Run, #6 Marshall Field, #2 Donder Storm, #3 Autumn Moon
Best Win: #7 OLIVER
Best Value Bet: #1 TYRION LANNISTER
Best Longshot: #1 TYRION LANNISTER
