South Africa Horse Racing Previews: SCOTTSVILLE@2023.04.09
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R105.000, 12:00GMT+2
Race Summary: ZOOMBOMBER made good improvement in his third start to finish close to some decent sorts. He has drawn well and could make a winning local debut. FUTURE FLO did a lot better in his second start even though drifting in the betting. He was supported on debut and has obvious potential. More can improve to earn, but the first-timers need to be watched. Trainer comment on WINTER GAMES is quite positive and he is by What A Winter so could be the one to beat. But most are well bred and the betting market could be the best guide.
Selections:
#1 Zoombomber, #6 Winter Games, #8 Future Flo, #11 King And Country
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R105.000, 12:30GMT+2
Race Summary: STAR PERFORMER was well supported on debut. He showed good pace only lacking extra late and had to settle for the third-place cheque. He should know all about it now and can reward followers. ANDY COOGLE and GOOSEBUMPS weren’t far off in their racecourse introductions and have scope for good improvement. Again there are plenty of newcomers and some are bred to fly. PROFESSOR LUPIN is by Gimmethegreenlight out of a speedy female line and could attract support. Follow the betting moves on all.
Selections:
#9 Star Performer, #3 Andy Coogle, #7 Goosebumps, #11 Professor Lupin
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R100.000, 13:00GMT+2
Race Summary: It could get close between SEA OF TEARS and IM THE BUZZ on form. The former is overdue and has run well at this venue. The latter has had wide draws with which to contend and could turn the form around with SEA OF TEARS if not hampered by the drop in distance. She is also returning after a break. MIA SOPHIA was beaten a short head after a rest. If she repeats, she could shed her maiden tag but has had her fair share of issues. FIRE PHOENIX needed her last run. She ran a fair race second time out and may improve to that level if not better. More can improve to feature in an open race.
Selections:
#2 Im The Buzz, #1 Sea Of Tears, #7 Mia Sophia, #5 Fire Phoenix
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R100.000, 13:35GMT+2
Race Summary: DIANA THE HUNTRESS turned it on nicely at the business end to finish in the money on debut. She will have learned a lot and probably won’t give as much start this time. She should also appreciate the extra distance. However, NONOTI is knocking hard at the door. She also runs on well at this venue and could get the timing right this time. JOLLIFICATION is still learning and has been using up valuable energy before and during a race so has lacked a strong finish. She could make the required improvement. EXPRESSIVITY ran a much better race last time and the form line is working out well.
Selections:
#4 Diana The Huntress, #8 Nonoti, #7 Jollification, #5 Expressivity
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R100.000, 14:10GMT+2
Race Summary: This appears a match race between RADICCHIO and SAFE SPACE, both of whom appear to be going the right way. The former has run three good races in a row and acquitted himself well when tried over a bit more ground, finding only a colt with Western Cape form too good. He could appreciate this longer journey. SAFE SPACE is proven over 1600m and being by Elusive Fort could relish the step up in distance. HIS MASTER’S VOICE wasn’t far behind SAFE SPACE last time and is probably looking for faster ground. He should be right there. RED PIANO and DOIN’ TIME both have upset claims in this.
Selections:
#7 Safe Space, #5 Radicchio, #1 His Master’s Voice, #10 Red Piano
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R110.000, 14:45GMT+2
Race Summary: RUNAWAY SONG has earned a high merit rating, having won four in a short space of time and five overall, but may need it after a layoff. Another with Western Cape form, NOBLE CITY, looks a promising sort. He impressed on debut but appeared in need of more ground when a staying-on third second time out. SHAMPOMPO SHAMPIZI tried hard when racing in the Cape and then needed his comeback race. His merit rating has dropped and now has a 1.5kg claimer up which could make the difference. IRON WILL didn’t enjoy his race last time and could go a lot better. GO MAN GO must have a say as well.
Selections:
#3 Noble City, #7 Shampompo Shampizi, #8 Runaway Song, #1 Go Man Go
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R100.000, 15:20GMT+2
Race Summary: Competitive fillies-and-mares sprint handicap. If everything goes her way AGA HEAT can show this field a clean pair of heels. Her standside draw may actually play in her favour. However, if the going is more of an advantage down the inside then PELARGONIUM could finally add a win to her tally. She has been knocking on the door on the poly. BONNE BOUCHE is very quick and just needs to last a bit longer at the business end. She should be at a peak in her third start after a rest. She finished ahead of PALM BREEZE, but the latter may turn it around over the longer trip. HUGSANDHIGHFIVES can improve.
Selections:
#12 Aga Heat, #3 Pelargonium, #8 Bonne Bouche, #9 Hugsandhighfives
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R120.000, 15:55GMT+2
Race Summary: ISIVUNGUVUNGU has immaculate Western Cape form. Just about one of the best sprinters in the country he is weighted to win and races fresh. LOVE IN WINTER won four in a row before running below par. He looks to have needed the run and could come on in leaps and bounds. GET IN THE Q’s last form line is working out well and she is turning into a specialist over this course and distance. She could make the grade at this high level. GOOD TRAVELLER lost form but is very capable and must be respected. COIN SPINNER is another high-class sprinter headed for features – watch out!
Selections:
#7 Isivunguvungu, #6 Love In Winter, #4 Get In The Q, #9 Coin Spinner
Scottsville, 09.04.2023, Race 9, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R100.000, 16:30GMT+2
Race Summary: Nice race to end. PROFESSOR SNAPE showed his true form last time and appeared a bit unlucky not to win. Can make amends on his return to the region. GOLDEN PEACE showed authority to win his maiden on local debut and could be anything. He has drawn wide on his track debut but should appreciate the longer distance and could get going in time. RELEASE ME also won his maiden in good style and has room for improvement. He has drawn well and should run a forward race. EL DANTE and AURORA STORM are also useful and more could be in the fight for prizes.
Selections:
#9 Professor Snape, #10 Golden Peace, #4 Release Me, #2 El Dante
Best Win: #7 ISIVUNGUVUNGU
Best Value Bet: #12 AGA HEAT
Best Longshot: #12 AGA HEAT
