Race Preview

Race 1 – PRIX DE LA JOURNEE DES PLANTES –  1600m HCP CL2. Purse EUR €53,000.

  1. BRAZILIAN SURPRISE – Was building to a win before breaking through last time by half a length over 1600m at this track. In great form and can make it back-to-back wins.
  2. IT’S ALL A DREAM – Won by a long neck at this track two starts ago. Disappointed last time at this track when 1.75 lengths from the winner in sixth. Capable of sharp improvement.
  3. LE NOMADE – Goes well at this trip with multiple top-three finishes. Failed to threaten last time out when fifth over 1600m at this track. Best form stacks up nicely. Big chance.
  4. MATT MACHINE – Scored his maiden win last time when resuming from a spell over 1800m at Lyon-la-Soie. Found winning form and can go on with it.
  5. CICCIO BOY – Comes here after finishing ninth last time at this track and trip beaten 3.5 lengths. Top-three candidate.
  6. HEAL THE WORLD – Progressive type in line for a hat-trick of wins, the latest success coming over 1600m at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather. Likely to feature.
  7. EL OJANCANO – Has been out of the money recently including last start when fifth over 1600m at this track three-and-a-half weeks ago, beaten 1.5 lengths. Worth following up.
  8. BOUGAINVILLIER – Has been without a win for over a year. Last time out finished 2.25 lengths away in seventh over 1600m at this track. Thereabouts last time but unlikely to test the top few.
  9. PUERTO MADERO – Has been out of the money in recent runs including last time out when fourth over 1600m at this track three-and-a-half weeks ago, beaten 1.2 lengths. Hard to have.
  10. SWISS BANK – Won two times earlier on in his prep, most recently finished fifth beaten 2.25 lengths at Pau All Weather over 1600m. Not likely to take this out.
  11. DOCTOR RON – Fitter for recent racing and looks close to a win after finishing third over 1500m at Deauville All Weather last time. Must be included.
  12. AGAPI MIA – Yet to break through this campaign but hasn’t been far away including a last start fourth over 1600m at this track. Faces a tough assignment this time.
  13. CHANCE – Winner three back at this track but hasn’t gone on with it of late. Needs to improve on last couple to feature in the finish.
  14. FORCHESTER – Well held second up after finishing fourth when resuming over 1500m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. Needs to improve sharply to figure.
  15. ROMANTIC ROSE – Has a poor strike rate and failed to improve on it last start when she finished fifth over 1600m at Compiegne. Among the place chances.
  16. QU’HUBO – Handy galloper back in winning form last start over 1600m at this track. Back in the winners’ list and bold showing expected again.

Summary: Top weight BRAZILIAN SURPRISE (1) won by 0.5L in a similar race to this over course and distance. Looks capable of defying a 3kg rise in the weights. HEAL THE WORLD (6) looks a big threat having completed a double when winning by 2L in a AW handicap over this trip at Cagnes-sur-Mer. MATT MACHINE (4) performed well when a short-head winner of an 1800m conditions race at Lyon-la-Soie. Big effort expected on handicap debut. IT’S ALL A DREAM (2) is another to consider having finished 1.75L sixth behind the top pick over this track and trip. LE NOMADE (3) is also noted following a 4.5L fifth in a 1600m conditions event here.

Selections

BRAZILIAN SURPRISE (1) – HEAL THE WORLD (6) – MATT MACHINE (4) – IT’S ALL A DREAM (2) – LE NOMADE (3)

Race 2 – PRIX DE L’ALLEE JANVIER –  1900m MDN. Purse EUR €27,000.

  1. AMBOISE – Was well in the market on debut and just missed at Deauville All Weather over 1500m. Resumes today from a four months spell and should be much improved. Sure to go close.
  2. MADALIE – On debut last time out when sixth and beaten 5 lengths over 1900m at Deauville All Weather. Requires significant improvement.
  3. FIRYALI – Turned in a nice debut over 1600m at this track last time finishing 5 lengths from the winner in second. Better for that run and can go on with it.
  4. MOONDUNE – Turned in a creditable run on debut back on November 16 when third over 1900m at this track. Makes plenty of appeal.
  5. ALMA BELLA – Didn’t impress on debut over 1900m at Deauville All Weather last time out, beaten 10 lengths. Has a lot of work to do.
  6. DARK ZEL – Fair effort last start, beaten 3 lengths into second over 1600m at this track. Worth including.
  7. SEA TOWER – Resumes after a spell of four months. Has finished seventh in both outings, the latest over 1600m at this track. Must improved significantly to play a role in the finish.
  8. SUNBURST – Sent out when in the market on debut and wasn’t disgraced when a 1.75 lengths sixth over 1500m at Deauville All Weather. Battled home well on debut and shapes as a solid chance.
  9. PISCOPIA – Debutant by American Pharoah from the good race mare Midnight Music who was a Listed winner on the track. Worth watching for a market push.

Summary: AMBOISE (1) suffered a neck defeat when runner-up in a 1500m newcomers contest at Deauville AW on debut. The form of that race is working out well and she looks up to breaking her maiden at the second attempt. Stablemate FIRYALI (3) rates a big threat having registered a 5L second over 1600m here on debut. SUNBURST (8) recorded a 1.75L sixth in that contest. Expected to go well stepping up in distance. MOONDUNE (4) debuted with a 1.75L third over this track and trip. Noted in this event.

Selections

AMBOISE (1) – FIRYALI (3) – SUNBURST (8) – MOONDUNE (4)

Race 3 – PRIX LE SANCY –  1100m CL2. Purse EUR €28,000.

  1. LE CENTRAL – Promising gelding who last start finished a long neck away in second over 1200m at Fontainebleau. This looks a tough assignment.
  2. PUREST TIME – Ran a better race last start to finish second at Fontainebleau over 1100m. Nicely placed and rates highly off that run.
  3. PELUSIVE – Last appeared four months ago when she finished 5.5 lengths from the winner in fourth over 1300m at Deauville All Weather. Not good enough for these.
  4. SHELBYLANDOR – Started this campaign in poor form, last start finishing sixth and beaten 7 lengths over 1350m at Senonnes-Pouance. Looks safely held.
  5. ROSIE ROCKET – Improved last start when second up from a spell, finishing third and beaten 1.75 lengths over 1100m at Fontainebleau. Must be respected.
  6. SIVKA BURKA – Well fancied last time when she broke through for a maiden win over 1200m at Fontainebleau. Fitter and can measure up again.
  7. EXXTRA – Has not raced since finishing 5.5 lengths away in fifth over 1000m at Longchamp on October 27. Did place first-up last prep at Saint-Cloud. Definite winning hope.

Summary: EXXTRA (7) registered a 5.5L fifth in the Listed Criterium de Vitesse over 1000m at Longchamp last October. Selected to make a winning seasonal debut. PUREST TIME (2) looks a big threat following a 0.75L second in an 1100m conditions event at Fontainebleau. SIVKA BURKA (6) came home 0.5L clear of her rivals in a 1200m maiden at the same venue. Shortlisted. ROSIE ROCKET (5) placed third when beaten 1.75L in the previously mentioned Fontainebleau conditions contest. Of note in this field.

Selections

EXXTRA (7) – PUREST TIME (2) – SIVKA BURKA (6) – ROSIE ROCKET (5)

Race 4 – PRIX DE LA FU MADAME –  1900m CLM CL3. Purse EUR €19,000.

  1. ROYAUMONT – Has been about the mark in small fields of late. Last start finished second at Deauville All Weather over 1900m. Worth plenty of thought.
  2. NOT SO SILLY – Mixing his form, two back finishing a safely held sixth at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather but ran a much better race last time when third over 2000m at Fontainebleau. Has ability and can find winning form this time.
  3. MORCOTE – Has been out of the money recently including last start when sixth over 1900m at Deauville All Weather two-and-a-half weeks ago, beaten 4.5 lengths. In the mix on best form.
  4. BY THE WAY – Last appeared when he finished third over 1900m at Deauville All Weather on March 11. Well placed to take this out.
  5. BAIKAL – Last appeared when he finished sixth over 2000m at Fontainebleau on March 3. This looks too tough.
  6. SAID – Has not raced since finishing 35 lengths away in seventh over 1600m at Munich (Germany) on November 19. Looking to others.
  7. WALLEM – Last appeared when he finished fourth over 1900m here on March 4. Genuine chance this time around.
  8. CHIEF MAMBO – Wasn’t expected to do much when fresh from a spell last start here over 1900m and wound up in 16th, beaten 13 lengths. Looks a fair way off peak form so others are preferred.
  9. NEED YOU TONIGHT – Four-year-old filly who has been racing consistently this preparation in easier company. Harder today and will to need improvement if she is to threaten.
  10. MASALA – Has not raced since finishing 7 lengths away in seventh over 1800m at Evreux on September 20. Can run a good race while fresh.

Summary: ROYAUMONT (1) placed second when beaten 3L in a 1900m claimer at Deauville AW. Leading contender on that evidence. BY THE WAY (4) recorded a 3L third in the previously mentioned claiming contest. Dangerous on his first start for a new trainer. NOT SO SILLY (2) came home 2.25L third behind a subsequent winner over 2000m in a claimer at Fontainebleau. Warrants close consideration. WALLEM (7) is another with claims following a 10L fourth contesting a 1900m conditions race on the AW here.

Selections

ROYAUMONT (1) – BY THE WAY (4) – NOT SO SILLY (2) – WALLEM (7)

Race 5 – PRIX DE L’ALLEE ELF –  1900m MDN. Purse EUR €27,000.

  1. DEVIL IN THE SKY – Colt who has only had two career starts and has been in the money both times. Looks a capable type.
  2. ALIJAN MOON – Resumes after a spell of five months. Turned out after a debut run when sixth over 1800m at Lyon-la-Soie. Doesn’t bring the right form to the table.
  3. KHANWEILER – Returned from a layoff last start and was beaten 5.5 lengths into fifth over 1900m at this track. Rates highly and should improve.
  4. HANGRY – Resumes after a break of five months. Nice run on debut then failed to threaten when sixth over 1900m at this track at the last outing prior to a spell. Likely to return bigger and better this prep.
  5. TATOO – On debut last start and could only manage fourth, 6 lengths from the winner at Deauville All Weather over 1900m. Can go on with it here.
  6. BELAFONTE – Made a promising debut at this track last start finishing third over 1600m. Open to improvement and expected to feature again.
  7. BE THE KING – Progressive colt resuming today after two runs in his maiden campaign, the latest effort a fourth over 1600m at this track on November 26. Likely improver who can start this prep in a strong way.
  8. TRACK OF TIME – Unraced gelding by Gleneagles out of South Sister. No surprise if he measured up.
  9. MISTER GOKEN – Son of Goken from Mummy’s Konig making his debut. Maybe later.
  10. MERCURIO – Gelding by Gutaifan from Makruma on debut. Purchased for EUR 3,500 (Arqana 2022 Autumn Sale). Happy to watch this time.
  11. LUNANERA – Son of Dark Angel from Shahad on debut. Purchased for GNS 90,000 (Tattersalls 2021 December Yearling Sale). Respect any positive betting move.

Summary: DEVIL IN THE SKY (1) placed second when beaten 1L in a track and trip maiden. Looks up to going one place better. BELAFONTE (6) delivered a 2.25L third when contesting a 1600m newcomers contest at this venue. Expected to play a hand in the finish. HANGRY (4) enters calculations on his first start since a 4.5L sixth over 1900m at this circuit in October. TATOO (5) registered a 6.25L fourth in a 1900m newcomers race at Deauville AW. Consider for the win.
