Selangor Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 18 March

Course A will be back in operation for the two days of racing at Selangor Turf Club this weekend with the rail in the true position.

The 1600m Class 3/4 Combined event (Race 5) will headline Saturday’s card of racing and it should provide an intriguing battle where five of the nine horse lineup clashed against one another in a 1600m contest here on February 26. On that occasion TRINITY GENERAL (1) proved successful at his first tilt over the mile when he led for most of the way to hold off the fast-finishing RESURGENCE (7). TRINITY GENERAL (1) goes up 3kg from that winning performance but usually maintains form and a successive victory would not surprise. RESURGENCE (7) is a handy sit sprinter who was successful at this grade over 1700m two starts back and will once again be suited by a brisk pace. GOLDEN FLAME (5) received every chance in that event after attracting heavy market support to start favourite. The eight-year-old looks ready to strike third up in the country. SEMANTAN PRINCE (2) also had every chance when placed 4th and goes into Saturday’s contest with a good record when produced third up from a spell. TELLER (4) flashed home to finish 3rd when resuming in a 1400m Metro A contest the day before and the G1 Piala Emas Sultan Selangor winner appears to be on target for another lucrative campaign.

Race 5 Selections: 5 – 7 – 4 – 1

MERCURIAL TURN (3) and NAJWAAN (7) ran the quinella at their last meeting here on February 25 and are set for a rematch in the 1300m Class 4 contest (Race 3). MERCURIAL TURN (3) started odds on favourite when coming off a month freshen up and raced on speed when scoring by a half-length over NAJWAAN (7). NAJWAAN (7) was first up for nearly two months and may have been short of a run after taking time to wind up from before closing off well at the finish. Both horses will be piloted by apprentice jockeys on Sunday. BELLA VELOCE (8) won in Class 5 company prior to receiving no luck when crowded at barrier rise last start. The mare bounced back with an impressive trial here on Tuesday morning and cannot be left out of calculations. FLYING BABY (10) is coming off a short break but has been tried in the markets in recent outings and looks a genuine chance at the weights.

Race 3 Selections: 7 – 3 – 8 – 10
