IMPERATRIZ TO IMPRESS DOWN UNDER
Star four-year-old New Zealand mare IMPERATRIZ looks all set to score on her Australian debut when she lines up in the $600,000 Group 1 Canterbury Stakes over 1300m from Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.
The Te Akau Racing-owned, Mark Walker-trained IMPERATRIZ boasts an outstanding record of 12 wins from 17 starts with four Group 1 victories to her name, two of which were this year when she claimed the G1 Railway Stakes and the BCD Group Sprint, bother over 1200m at Te Rapa.
IMPERATRIZ has been heavily backed in overseas fixed odds markets to claim Saturday’s feature race, while under Weight-For-Age conditions with champion hoop James McDonald in the saddle, it’s easy to make a solid case for her.
HAMMARQUIST CONFIDENT WITH ORISTANO
Handy sprinter ORISTANO is primed to return to the winner’s list this Saturday when he contests the $22,000 Class 2 race over 1200m at Geraldton racecourse, Australia.
Trained by Graeme Hammarquist, ORISTANO has been racing in consistent form with four placings from his last five starts. The Master Of Design gelding caught the eye with a fast finishing third last start, when he let down well in the straight to miss by 1.5 lengths over 1100m at this track.
This week, ORISTANO remains in the same class and from a decent draw, he should endure a nice run in transit and can prove hard to beat with the apprentice claim.
