South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2023.03.01

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R125.000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: MOJO MAN made a pleasing debut when finishing ahead of JEWEL CAT and with expected improvement should confirm superiority. HARD WINTER, FUTURE VARIETY and SAVANTRIX are well-bred newcomers to keep an eye on, especially if the market speaks in their favour. Watch the betting.

Selections:

#7 Mojo Man, #6 Jewel Cat, #10 Savantrix, #1 Hard Winter

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R100.000, 13:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. JURY DUTY and EVERLASTING are favourably treated by the conditions of the race so ought to make their presence felt. TUSCAN GOLD took advantage of a reduced mark to finish ahead of those rivals last time, and should also have a say if confirming that improvement racing off the same rating and similar weight terms. AXL has run well in two comeback outings and reverts to 1000m in his peak outing refitted with blinkers, which should put him right in the firing line too. SWIFT ACTION has held his own in stronger company this year and off a lower mark could be rewarded for his consistency.

Selections:

#1 Swift Action, #7 Axl, #6 Jury Duty, #2 Tuscan Gol

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R80.000, 13:50GMT+2

Race Summary: This won’t take much winning and RED KITE is likely to feature prominently once more, as she chases an overdue maiden win. She does, however, concede 2kg to improving HANG OUT THE STARS and 6kg to CATCHUSIFYOUCAN, who has finished close-up over this course and distance at her last 2 starts with blinkers fitted and retained. TYPEFACE ought to play a role if building on the improvement she showed last time out. Returning BEAU KALA and FALLO ANCORA could complete the minors.

Selections:

#9 Catchusifyoucan, #5 Hang Out The Stars, #3 Red Kite, #4 Typeface

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R80.000, 14:25GMT+2

Race Summary: Wide-open maiden. STATE OF SHOCK bounced back to form at long odds when running on to finish 3rd over 1400m last time. He should have a say if confirming that improvement but is probably worth opposing over the extra. PROMETTERE and INSIDE STORY, who had the aforementioned rival between them last time, have a lot more scope to improve and will be better suited by the step up in trip, so are preferred. RAINBOW COLOURS has a bit to find on the form of that meeting but should pose more of a threat from a better draw. Well-bred GREEN FALCON and well-related DOWNING SEVEN can earn minor money

Selections:

#6 Promettere, #1 Inside Story, #7 Rainbow Colours, #3 Ilha Da Mauricia

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R100.000, 15:00GMT+2

Race Summary: A number of these arrive with reduced ratings after indifferent showings but could fare better as a result. RAISING QUINN makes most appeal having run well at a higher level. She ought to play a leading role dropping into this grade and off a slightly lower mark. PHILOSOPHISE is closely matched with that rival on recent form but is worse off at the weights and drawn widest, so unlikely to turn the tables. UMVOTI and BLACK PATH gave better accounts when last seen and should make their presence felt if confirming/building on that.

Selections:

#3 Raising Quinn, #9 Philosophise, #7 Black Path, #6 Umvoti

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R110.000, 15:35GMT+

Race Summary: Good race. SILENT TRIGGER and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS are effective over this distance and have been acquitting themselves competitively at a higher level recently. Despite their big weights and wide draws, there’s little to suggest they won’t do so again in this grade. CHARLIE CROKER ran a blinder under a big weight and from a wide draw on his handicap debut and should fight out the finish with a repeat of that effort. GIMME MORE TIME is held on that form but is weighted to get closer. Progressive CARRIACOU could have more to offer over this trip so warrants respect

Selections:

#2 Charlie Croker, #10 Silent Trigger, #6 Gimme More Time, #8 Pineapple Express

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R200.000, 16:08GMT+2

Race Summary: KING REGENT ran well above his rating when 4th in a lucrative sales race behind Cape Guineas 4th Royal Aussie. He must concede weight to all after a resultant 15-point penalty but, with further improvement expected, that may not be enough to prevent him from getting back to winning ways. Versatile KITCHAKAL and consistent DANCE VARIETY, who has finished close-up in both starts after gelding, could emerge as his biggest dangers under light weights. NARINA TROGON and ICONIC DESTINATION ought to give more after gelding, so could stake a claim. BONIKA and BEERENBERG could also have a say.

Selections:

#1 King Regent, #3 Kitchakal, #8 Dance Variety, #5 Iconic Destination

Kenilworth, 01.03.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R100.000, 16:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Wide open. TOUCH OF GRACE will have to eke out more improvement to complete the hat-trick of course-and-distance wins, with RAFEEF’S CHOICE weighted to turn the tables and favourably drawn inside. ELLA’S DELIGHT is also likely to pose more of a threat from there having needed her last start from an outside gate. COPPER VIEW and LOUIS’ DIAMOND have big weights to shoulder but ought to find this drop in grade more to their liking. HIERKOMMIEBOKKIE was impressive in winning her maiden over track and trip, and with further improvement should make her presence felt. Others can feature.

Selections:

#1 Rafeef’s Choice, #10 Touch Of Grace, #2 Ella’s Delight, #8 Louis’ Diamond

Best Win: #3 RAISING QUINN

Best Value Bet: #1 SWIFT ACTION

Best Longshot: #1 SWIFT ACTION
