South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2023.02.07

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R120.000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: A tricky opening contest with very little form to go on and mostly newcomers in the line-up. Of those to have raced PRESSONREGARDLESS sets the standard and his experience should stand him in good stead. Stablemate GRAND BAY is very well bred and it wouldn’t come as a surprise were he to run a forward race on debut. Fire Away colts EXCEPT TEMPTATION and KING’S ISLAND represent raiding KZN trainers, which suggests they may be smart/forward enough to acquit themselves competitively too. FOUR JACKS, TEFLON MAN, SWISS WALT and FIBONACCI are others to keep an eye on. Watch the betting for clues!

Selections:

#2 Pressonregardless, #7 Teflon Man, #5 Grand Bay, #9 Fibonacci

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R120.000, 13:10GMT+2

Race Summary: JEWEL CAT and stablemate PRINCE OF DENMARK have both the form and experience to play a leading role. MANCHESTER FIGHTER was disappointing last time out but did show enough on debut to warrant another chance. HONSHU would’ve come on from his debut and ought to improve having been gelded since, so is another to consider. ZOOMIE caught the eye on debut when getting going late and with natural improvement expected over the extra 200m is likely to be right in the firing line. Trainer comments also suggest Rafeef colts MOJO MAN and OUTLAW KING could run forward races too. Follow the market movers!

Selections:

#1 Jewel Cat, #3 Zoomie, #6 Mojo Man, #7 Outlaw King

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R120.000, 13:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Wide open. BLUE HOLLY put her experience to good use when building on a pleasing debut effort to finish 2nd over 1000m last time out, and further improvement over the extra 200m ought to see her play another leading role. SIDDELEY and STRATA were on debut and well beaten on that occasion but would’ve come on appreciably for that experience so could well get closer. ONI SAN was not beaten far on debut by a subsequent feature-race winner, and with natural improvement could make her presence felt. EASY MONEY has claims, while newcomers KYALAMI GIRL, CHARLENE and OCTOBER MORN are worth monitoring.

Selections:

#9 Blue Holly, #12 Oni San, #13 October Morn, #7 Siddeley

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R120.000, 14:20GMT+2

Race Summary: KEBONALESEDI produced an improved effort after a no-show (unshod) on debut and should, with any further progress, be involved in the finish. SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL has been costly to follow but wouldn’t be winning out of turn after several close-up finishes, and she’s likely to acquit herself competitively once more in receipt of a 2.5kg sex allowance. MIGHTY MAC, however, made an eye-catching debut behind that rival despite blowing the start and could represent the value in the race if jumping on terms. Newcomers QUERARI’S DREAM and LORD SAYE are worth a market check – respect any betting support.

Selections:

#2 Mighty Mac, #8 Simply Beautiful, #1 Kebonalesedi, #13 Lord Saye

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R100.000, 14:55GMT+2

Race Summary: SUPREME DREAM has been getting closer with every outing. She finished well to take 2nd over a shorter trip last time and the extra 200m, with the cheekpieces retained, could see her go one better. SHORT SHARP SHOCK is held on that form but likely to pose a threat on better weight terms. SUMMER NIGHT CITY and CATCHUSIFYOUCAN have improved in recent starts, the latest over track and trip, and ought to make their presence felt too.

Selections:

#6 Supreme Dream, #2 Catchusifyoucan, #8 Short Sharp Shock, #1 Summer Night City

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R100.000, 15:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. ALPHABETTY and SAARTJIE are closely matched on the form of a recent meeting in a similar contest over 1600m. On that evidence, both could be better suited to the extra 200m and should be competitive as a result. EYE CATCHING has a bit to find on that form but is ideally drawn and should get into it. ZIPPY OVER, ROCKIE REEF and PEUT ETRE MOI competed at a higher level last time and are proven in this grade. They ought to fare better dropping in class and must be included. METAR is not without a chance either.

Selections:

#7 Saartjie, #6 Alphabetty, #5 Rockie Reef, #9 Metar

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R140.000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. Lightly raced BRIGHT GREEN caught the eye in a comeback sprint and should be both fitter and more at home over this trip, so with improvement expected should be competitive. TOUT A FAIT has continued to run well at a slightly lower level but is in good form and distance suited. LOOK FOR HOUNDS has been holding form in this grade and with another honest account should be in the thick of it. PORT LOUIS and FUTURE PRINCE contested feature races last time and should find this easier – the latter is well treated by the conditions. RUSSIAN ROCK can’t be ignored and could also play a role.

Selections:

#5 Port Louis, #4 Look For Hounds, #3 Tout A Fait, #2 Bright Green

Kenilworth, 07.02.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100.000, 16:40GMT+2

Race Summary: BUSY LIZZIE has improved racing around the turn and should go well again on her handicap debut. She is, however, drawn widest of all under joint top-weight so could be worth opposing with several hard-knockers in the line-up and in receipt of weight. Stablemates FLY TO RIO and VERONIQUE arrive in good form and could have the measure of 3yo fillies. VIRGINIA SWEET is one those but could pose more of a threat from an inside draw following an improved last start over track and trip. Consistent ENCHANTED CREEK is likely to be right in the mix once more.

Selections:

#4 Veronique, #5 Enchanted Creek, #3 Virginia Sweet, #12 Busy Lizzie

Best Win: #6 SUPREME DREAM

Best Value Bet: #2 MIGHTY MAC

Best Longshot: #2 MIGHTY MAC
