Greyville Preview – 23 January

South Africa Horse Racing Previews: GREYVILLE POLYTRACK@2023.01.23

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Poly, R80.000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: MISS DORA can get it right. She turned the form around with COUNTY KILDARE last time and at level weights should confirm, even if jumping from a wide gate as she does switch off and comes from off the pace. More of a threat may come from FORT J’ADORE who was having only her second start when beaten 0.70 lengths by MISS DORA. She has drawn better and should improve in her second try on the Polytrack. Both PRETTY ANALIA and KYNISKA have played up and spoiled their chances at times. The former improved some last time but the latter has the better draw.

Selections:

#8 Miss Dora, #2 Fort J’Adore, #3 County Kildare, #1 Kyniska

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1600m, Poly, R80.000, 13:05GMT+2

Race Summary: GELSOMINA looked be mounting a challenge when carried out by the eventual winner last time. She showed she can do it on the poly as well and should have a big say from the same fair barrier. Watch out for Highveld-based filly LITTLE LADY who was not far off the wire when making her poly debut. She has now secured draw No 1 and this longer trip is likely to suit. GUTEN TAG rates another serious contender. The widest drawn filly in the race, she was eye catching when coming from far back when not beaten far by more experienced rivals. But she will be making her poly debut.

Selections:

#3 Gelsomina, #1 Little Lady, #9 Guten Tag, #8 Rowins Dream

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Poly, R80.000, 13:35GMT+2

Race Summary: FABULOUS showed maturity beyond her years when winning her handicap debut after a slow start, beating hard-knocking sorts. She has been given time off and with maturity could make more improvement. ICE SUNSATION was allowed to dictate matters and ended up winning a nice race. If she brings the form to the poly she could be hard to peg back again. DANSE MILORD has been trying different things but the drop to 1600m could be what she is looking for. FEELING GROOVY stepped up on her form to win convincingly and with LET IT SNOW who had an off day last time must be respected.

Selections:

#1 Fabulous, #3 Ice Sunsation, #10 Danse Milord, #6 Feeling Groovy

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1900m, Poly, R80.000, 14:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Lightly raced SING FOR WINTER has had two races on the poly and she impressed in both. She could be underrated still. BOOGIE SHOES was also impressive and she too could be on the up. However, she seems to need things to go her way. CATALEYA SUMMER ran a decent race in her post-maiden race but more importantly, much improved on her previous race on this surface. She should enjoy the extra distance this time. SHE’S NOT EASY found her last race short and should run a better race (from gate No 1). YOU DESERVE IT has disappointed but has also drawn well and may pop up.

Selections:

#10 Sing For Winter, #6 Boogie Shoes, #7 Cataleya Summer, #1 She’s Not Easy

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 2000m, Poly, R80.000, 14:45GMT+2

Race Summary: STRAIGHT UP was impressive last week and if in the same mood can follow up. BOUNDLESS BASH appeared a bit unlucky not to get his head in front when switching back to this surface. He should see out the longer distance on pedigree. BANZAI PIPELINE has no stamina issues and is holding form well. However, he will need a good pace. IBUTHO gave signs he could be coming back to form last time. CAPTAIN WHO was not disgraced over this distance on the turf and may prefer it on the poly.

Selections:

#5 Straight Up, #4 Boundless Bash, #2 Banzai Pipeline, #3 Ibutho

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Poly, R80.000, 15:20GMT+2

Race Summary: It could be between QUANABI and BRIGHT STAR. Both are three-year-old fillies with improvement to come and the former did run a cracker when second to SHAKEN NOT STIRRED who re-opposes but needs to maintain consistency. BRIGHT STAR won as she liked over a sprint distance but could be even better over the longer trip. PERFECT APPEAL is another bred to enjoy 1400m even though having primarily campaigned over shorter. She could be the dark horse again. GIMME A LULLABY and HATTA have drawn well enough to earn prizes. More can upset.

Selections:

#4 Quanabi, #8 Bright Star, #6 Perfect Appeal, #2 Shaken Not Stirred

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1200m, Poly, R80.000, 16:00GMT+2

Race Summary: JOSHUA HOTSNAKE is holding form and ready to notch up another win. He races for the Wendy Whitehead yard which has been in red-hot form and from draw No 2 could be the one. MOVIE MAGIC has run second four times in a row and would be deserving. On collateral form it could get close between the two. PURPLE OPERATOR just got up to beat MOVIE MAGIC last time and looks capable of going in again. GIMME A RAINBOW and HALLERBOS aren’t without chances but will have their work cut out from wide gates. FIERY DUKE could settle better over this shorter trip.

Selections:

#2 Joshua Hotsnake, #4 Movie Magic, #6 Purple Operator, #10 Gimme A Rainbow

Greyville Polytrack, 23.01.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Poly, R80.000, 16:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Nice race to end. MORGAN LA FAY has talent but has had things go wrong. She has much in her favour and could get her confidence boosted again. ACACIA’S BLOSSOM looks a lively threat. She didn’t enjoy further last time but her form prior is consistent and she should go well from a decent gate. LADY HEIST came in for support but found one better in a veteran sprinter last time. She should now be looking for this longer distance. FORTUNE BAY won well enough to suggest she could trouble handicappers in her next start. NOBLE STORM is usually dangerous after a rest.

Selections:

#1 Morgan La Fay, #4 Acacia’s Blossom, #3 Lady Heist, #8 Fortune Bay

Best Win: #10 SING FOR WINTER

Best Value Bet: #1 MORGAN LA FAY

Best Longshot: #1 MORGAN LA FAY
