South Africa Racing – Captain Casey should be Super Fast

While at first glance Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday 30 November, looks wide open, there is no reason to believe Super Fast won’t live up to his name.

A half-brother to now top division sprinter Samuel Salt, this three-year-old gelding trained by Tony Rivalland was given a learning experience on debut over a trip too short. Second time out, Super Fast – by Querari – showed a lot more when tried over 1200m.

While things went wrong for him, he found himself in a pocket and took a while to gather momentum, but was eventually beaten only 1.9-lengths at the wire (finishing with a brush wound).

Interestingly the horse that beat him, Music Is Life, is also the selection in a stronger handicap race later on.

In Race 6, a Graduation Plate over 1500m, Captain Casey should stake a claim to head for classic three-year-old races.

If performing as expected, this Captain Of All colt could well be nominated for the upcoming Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas in a few weeks’ time. Half-brother to versatile Prince Of Taranto, he earlier beat top KwaZulu-Natal colt See It Again when shedding his maiden tag and although beaten by the latter in the listed Model Man Mile, he showed class again in getting close.

That was his first run after a rest and he was entitled to the outing in a strong contest. On ratings he should have the field he meets this time round at his mercy being the best-weighted contestant by a ton.

Next best weighted is stable mate Mr Henley, who has useful form and should go the trip on pedigree. He is, however, 15 points behind and should be lucky to finish within a few lengths of his highly regarded fellow inmate.

Bettors looking for value on the day should consider Winter Baron, who carries a light weight and could snatch victory in Race 2, a MR90 Handicap over 1000m.

After finishing close to last last time out – with excuses – he may be offered at promising odds despite being back over his best track and trip.

Lady Serena and Music Is Life can both be considered solid eachway value in Race 7 and Race 8 respectively.

The former is a specialist jumping from a good gate and while her main opposition have scope, she may just edge them on experience. Music Is Life won in style when fitted with blinkers and looks a lot better than his previous maiden encounters.
