Penang Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 12 Nov

Leading trainer, Cheng Han Yong has good representation from his large Selangor base when he makes the trek north to Penang Turf Club on Saturday.

With ten stable representatives for the day, Cheng will be preparing three of the eight candidates lining up in the high grade Banded 51-74 contest (Race 4) over 1300m. His main chance looks to be TOPMOST, which looks ready to strike after five runs this preparation. The seven year old has the best statistic for the distance with 3 wins from 5 starts at 1300m and is coming off three placings in a row, including a last start 3rd to the inform Cheval Rapide in KL. His early pace should place him in good stead on the smaller circuit.

SUPER COME, from the Ismadi Ismail yard, has been struggling to find form in recent starts but should strip fitter second up from a spell. The eight year old strikes a weaker field here and has a good record of 2 wins from 4 starts on the track, including a 1300m victory here back in May.

RONALDO’S DREAM won at his local debut here in July and can bounce back to his best form in this grade. The six year old has failed twice on wet tracks recently so requires a dry surface to perform at his optimum level.

SOMAR is a handy sit sprinter who drops back to a more suitable distance and draws well with the benefit of the apprentice claim.

The 1100m Class 4 contest (Race 3) also contains two HY Cheng runners, VETRI and MELTING POINT, both with genuine winning chances. The last time VETRI dropped back to Class 4 grade was back on August 21 and was successful on that occasion. Following three unplaced efforts against tougher opposition, the New Zealand bred can bounce back to winning form on the track where he holds an impressive record of 3 wins from 5 starts.

Stable mate, MELTING POINT looked sharp in winning his trial by 5.5 lengths in KL on Tuesday. Despite not winning a race since March 2018, he hasn’t been far away in recent outings and a win would not surprise.

DESIRE SKY appears well placed at the weights after finishing runner up in KL three weeks ago.
