RACE 10 [TF1122]

The Inquiry into the riding of AMAZING BREEZE (App M Akmazani) in Race 10 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 24 September 2022 was concluded on Wednesday, 28 September 2022.

Evidence was taken from App Akmazani and Trainer J Tan, Master of Trainer App Akmazani and Trainer of AMAZING BREEZE. Trainer J Tan gave evidence that AMAZING BREEZE can be a difficult horse to ride and can have a tendency to miss the start, which it did on this occasion. Trainer J Tan also explained that he had advised the rider in the event that the gelding was slowly away, he was not to pressure it in the early stages as the gelding had previously overraced when ridden hard early.

The Stewards noted Trainer J Tan’s explanations and were also mindful that AMAZING BREEZE had reconnected with the main body of the field, prior to the hometurn. App Akmazani explained that he allowed AMAZING BREEZE to balance up after straightening before placing the gelding under full pressure passing the 300m. The Stewards also considered App Akmazani had been struck heavily in the head on the way to the barrier when AMAZING BREEZE threw its head up.

App Akmazani was subsequently examined and cleared to ride by the Club’s Medical Staff. In all the circumstances, no direct action was taken against App Akmazani although he was advised to ride his mounts so as to leave no room for query.

Trainer J Tan was also advised that given the difficult nature and racing manners of AMAZING BREEZE, he should be more selective when engaging a rider for the gelding in future.

RACE 11 [TF1123]

On Wednesday, 28 September 2022, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into Jockey B Pinheiro’s riding of MR MALEK, with particular reference to the level of vigour, applied to the gelding in the straight in the above-mentioned race.

Evidence was taken from Jockey Pinheiro (pictured) and Trainer S Burridge, the Trainer of MR MALEK.

At the conclusion of the Inquiry, Jockey Pinheiro, the rider of MR MALEK, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride MR MALEK to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The specifics of the charge being:

  • That, he, as the rider of MR MALEK, did fail to ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination in the homestraight.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge, his disciplinary record, personal circumstances and precedent penalties. In all the circumstances, Jockey Pinheiro’s Licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months from Monday, 03 October 2022 until Friday, 02 December 2022 both dates inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
