Selangor Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 18 Sep

Singapore based Brazilian jockey, Bernardo Pinheiro will make another hit and run visit to Selangor Turf Club this Sunday with a book of four rides on the eight race program. Pinheiro has ridden four winners at each of his two visits to Malaysia so far this season, striking at 50%. However, most of his rides on Sunday appear to be outside chances with perhaps the exception of the inform ZA’EEM, who goes around in the 1400m Class 3 contest (Race 7). The nine year old has won 3 of his past 4 starts and will be pitted against a handy lineup including last week’s winner, BERRY BLISS. The Charles Leck prepared gelding has won 4 from 7 and will prove hard to beat again despite the rise in grade. This race is wide open and LEGEND WAR is a proven performer at this level after finishing close up in a strong Class 3 race in Penang on August 21. VALENCIA finished just behind LEGEND WAR in that same race and was coming off a winning hat trick prior to that so a forward showing from the Ipoh based galloper would not surprise.

Owners, the Pavitra Gallop stable have enjoyed a splendid run recently with a couple of former Singapore gallopers. High Water made it two from two in the country last Sunday and GOOD FIGHT has the capacity to go back to back in the 1300m Class 4 event (Race 8). Also prepared by Simon Dunderdale, GOOD FIGHT has won 2 from 4 locally and leading apprentice, Clyde Leck with the 2kg claim has previously tasted success aboard the gelding back in July. GOLDEN QUEEN was an easy maiden winner last start and should measure up in this company. UNSTOPPABLE GIANT, who comes off a two month break and LEOPARD ECLIPSE are good chances at the weights. GOLDEN MAN is a former New Zealander making his Malaysian debut and resumes for the HY Cheng yard. The five year old trialled well here on Tuesday morning and was a winner on debut back home in August last year.
