Selangor Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 11 Sep

Talented performer, KONG FU PANDA has accomplished a rapid rise through the grades since debuting as a two year old in May last year and will face his biggest test in the 1400m Supreme A contest (Race 6) on Sunday. The New Zealand bred gelding has posted 7 wins from 10 starts and could not have been more impressive when scoring first up over 1300m here a month ago. The now four year old will be pitted against his more experienced and seasoned rivals in VIOLET and smart mare, AHTIMS KLIS.

VIOLET was placed in the G1 Tunku Gold Cup earlier this season and will strip fitter following his 2nd behind Xena a fortnight ago after a three month break. The seven year old boasts an excellent second up record and looks the main danger.

The Penang trained AHTIMS KLIS has chalked up a personal best season with five wins in 2022 and the mare has maintained form since her impressive win at her home track on July 30. The seven year old finished runner up to the highly talented Shanghai Nights two weeks ago and can never be discounted at this level.

EYE GUY wasn’t disgraced at his first outing for two months and should use his early pace to be prominent for a long way while WAR DRAGON can produce a sharp sprint and should appreciate coming off a genuine speed.

Former Singapore galloper, HIGH WATER was the most impressive winner at the August 20 meeting when leading throughout by seven lengths and is on track for successive victories in the 1100m Class 4 event (Race 10). The five year old provided jockey Bernardo Pinheiro with one of his four winning rides that day and the Brazilian hoop will be reacquainted with the gelding this Sunday.

WILLOW SPRINGS is a promising type with a record of 3 wins from 8 starts and has not started since scoring from a wide gate at Penang back in May. The five year old has previously won first up and will be a force to be reckoned with.

STAR TALENT usually settles on the pace and is overdue for a win following three runs this time in. The five year old has been freshened and looks a genuine chance despite not winning a race for ten months.

GENERAL NIX has been a rapid improver this year posting four wins this season and visits the Selangor circuit for the first time.
