Trainer Alan Greeff has had a good start to the season and he could have a decent enough day at Fairview ON Friday.
The ball could start rolling in Race 1 as his charge Potente is likely to show good improvement back on the Polytrack. The Var gelding was a bit of a disappointment on local debut but that was on the turf and perhaps he was in need of the outing.
Jockey S’manga Khumalo is aboard this time and from No 1 draw he may be the right one in a weak race.
Potente showed promise early in his career and was runner-up behind Big Slick on the Greyville Polytrack back in March.
Probably the best winning chance at this meeting for the Greeff-Khumalo combination is Vida Futura in Race 7.
This Futura gelding looked an unlucky loser on local debut when finding traffic problems and finished best of all but was still 1.60 lengths behind Duke Of Orange.
That form has held up pretty well although Vida Futura did not repeat that level in his next two starts which were over 1600m.
Stepped up to 1900 the four-year-old gelding ran a cracker last time out. Despite losing some ground at the start and not really settling in the running, Vida Futura still did well enough to chase home easy and impressive winner Ideal Time, showing he had no problem with the longer distance.
All he needs is a decent pace and he could go one better.
It is also quite possible Greeff and Khumalo can round off the meeting and take out the last race with Wildest Dreams.
This four-year-old Dynasty filly took a long time to get out the maiden ranks but did follow up nicely on that win to score again and showed she is improving.
The hat-trick could be completed over a course and distance that clearly suits.
