Trainer Alan Greeff got off to a very good start in the opening meeting of the season by saddling no less than four winners on the day.

His nemesis, newly crowned champion Eastern Cape trainer Gavin Smith, does however look to have the better hand at Fairview on Friday 12 August.

Cane Lime ‘N Soda may have let his supporters down recently when only third last time out behind Ablueazure but that run is best ignored as he was caught out of his ground early and got bumped late when trying to catch the easy winner.

Cane Lime ‘N Soda loves the Polytrack and although he is clearly at his very best over a bit further, he will prove a tough nut to crack in Race 6, a MR68 Handicap over 1900m.

Jockey Louis Mxothwa, who has not been riding regularly for Smith recently, will be in the saddle.

Mxothwa has secured four rides for Smith come Friday and the pair could reunite for more than just a flash in the pan.

Smith is not short of runners on the day and could be dangerous in all of races 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8.

Bavarian Jet and Tufaan are both coming off good runs and can contest the finish in race 2.

Verified ran a cracker when narrowly beaten in his latest start and the disappointing Trumps Express is a good back-up for Smith in Race 3.

Pinnacle was a good runner-up in a handicap race recently when still a juvenile so may have more to offer in race 4.

Vegas Gold does not always show his best form but was well backed when winning easily last time out and could follow that up and take out Race 5.
