South Africa Racing – Fly high with Giambattista

Racing at Greyville on Monday does not look easy but there are a few that catch the eye as decent value options.

There was much to like about the manner in which High Flyby took to the Polytrack at this venue at the start of the month. She met males in that race and probably went too fast over the 1600m but dropping to 1400m, she could gallop her field of females into the ground and shed her maiden in Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares.

Her earlier form, while consistent, was nothing to write home about but she made her debut in a feature race at Greyville when 7.25 lengths behind Graded placed runner Supreme Quest and added to that a decent run behind multiple Grade 1 winner Safe Passage.

Giambattista is as consistent as they come but after a forward start to his career but then disappointed in not being able to get the job done, despite finishing off is races strongly.

Gelding looks to have done the trick with him as he won his next start in a manner that looked most encouraging.

He had to overcome a bad draw which on the Polytrack over sprints can be just about impossible. The gaps didn’t present themselves until late and still he won with ease.

While more competitive the quality of the field he meets on his handicap debut doesn’t look a league above his last race and this time he jumps from gate No 1.

He could quickly reward connections in Race 8, which is a MR 66 Handicap over 1400m.

Ndaka is another interesting runner. He has not been convincing on the Polytrack, but he when he lines up in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1000m, he will jump from gate No 1 and will have Anton Marcus in the irons for the first time.

In a competitive race he could open his account at decent odds with a positive ride.
