South Africa Racing – Value lies with Tarantino

Punters are set for a tough tussle on Friday’s Fairview card but one runner who does have strong claims on winning his race is Tarantino.

Trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen has done well with runners he has picked up from Justin Snaith and the form of Tarantino at his favourite course is hard to ignore.

The last time Tarantino raced at this track was in October 2021 and he was a fluent winner over recent winner Glacier Gold.

In his other three starts at the track he finished runner-up in all three races and a couple of those were when he chased home Eastern Cape champion three-year-old Global Drummer.

The disappointing last run at Scottsville is best ignored.

It is also worth noting that current rider Richard Fourie was aboard Tarantino in his last victory.

Clearly, the biggest threat should come from the horse weighted to win this race, Legitimate. The Gavin Smith-trained gelding proved a disappointment on local debut when attracting some money, but that distance proved to be well short of his best and the run is best ignored, especially as that was on the Polytrack.

Since then, and on the turf, the Dynasty gelding finished a promising third behind Global Drummer.

Swingers in Race 1 with Glitterfox and Pinnacle could be worth a play. Glitterfox is getting close to win a race and her danger, Pinnacle, ran a creditable third on debut and should come on nicely for that experience.

Smith’s coupling should fight out the finish of Race 2 although Forest Spy could be a bit better than Orange Red.
