South Africa Racing – Wendy to Keep On Dancing at Scottsville

Trainer Wendy Whitehead had some good runners at last week’s Scottsville meeting that got rained out but many of those horses will be in action on Sunday at the rescheduled race meeting.

One of those is Keep On Dancing who looked as if her winning streak would continue and she would go on to compete some feature races as she had won six out of a string of seven races last season.

But the run came to an end perhaps, as a result of her running at Greyville. However, Whitehead will be glad her charge will be back racing at Scottsville and her Silvano mare could be ready to pick up from where she left off.

She runs in Race 7, a MR 102 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1500m, and it is a good field full of talent. Mount Laurel was unlucky to lose her last race, the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes, as she continued to hang after looking the likely winner which allowed another classy individual, Zimbaba, to get by.

She finished ahead of Keep On Dancing at Greyville prior to that and rates the obvious danger. Value wise Keep On Dancing should jump at decent odds especially as she has now drawn wide, so an each-way bet about her chances with Swingers and Exactas with Mount Laurel looks the play.

Interestingly Whitehead saddles the half-brother to Mount Laurel in Race 1 – Sundance Kid – b who Whitehead says is a nice horse but will be green. She echoed the same about her next runner, a first-timer bred to fly in Ravens Sword in Race 3, but Whitehead’s first winner could be Sky Café in Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies over 1200m.

Sky Café ran her worst race at this venue two runs back but didn’t enjoy the soft underfoot conditions on the inside of the track on the day and pulled up short, so that run is best ignored.

As opposed to last week’s meeting she has drawn on the outside of the track, which is not ideal but there has been rain about and often the stand side drains better and is the place to be.

Main dangers Vision Of Will, Star Aglow and Reginas Angel have all drawn similarly, which levels the playing field. Vision Of Will lacks a knockout blow over 1200m, Star Aglow should need the run after being off for more than four months and Reginas Angel has had 16 other tries to get it right, so all points to Sky Café.

Other strong form runners on the day include Mr Molony (Race 3), Winter Waves (Race 6) and Phinda Mzala (Race 8).
