Progressive four-year-old CALIFORNIA CIBLE is poised to score two wins on end when he returns to Happy Valley in the Class 3 1200m Handicap on Wednesday.
A two-time winner with as many placings from six starts in Australia under the same name, CALIFORNIA CIBLE took to Hong Kong racing instantly after finishing a solid runner-up over this distance at Sha Tin towards the end of September. Things went awry second-up, however, as he drew barrier 13 and was used up early to find the lead before weakening in the straight due to the early hard work. CALIFORNIA CIBLE bounced back to form third-up when switching to Happy Valley for the first time, failing to muster early but storming home late into second place, beaten a neck.
With Joao Moreira in the saddle on his fourth-up assignment 21 days ago, CALIFORNIA CIBLE had the writing on the wall, and he duly saluted with ease by 1.5 lengths. With seemingly more upside to come, CALIFORNIA CIBLE will take beating again.
