Singapore Stewards’ Press Release

SINGAPORE FEBRUARY MEETING 2021

RACE 8 [TF0092]

On Wednesday, 10 February 2021, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into Jockey S John’s (pictured) riding of SUPER TALENT in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey John and Trainer KY Young, the Trainer of SUPER TALENT.

After considering all the evidence, Jockey John was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he did fail to ride SUPER TALENT to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars being that from the 600m until the Winning Post, he did fail to ride with sufficient vigour and determination.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the nature of the charge and submissions from Jockey John that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meeting on Saturday, 13 February 2021.

Jockey John was suspended from riding in races with effect from Sunday, 14 February 2021 to Thursday, 13 May 2021 both dates inclusive (a period of three months) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 9 [TF0093]

On Wednesday, 10 February 2021, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into App PH Seow’s riding of EXCELLING in the above race and in particular, the fast tempo set through the middle stages of the race. Evidence was taken from App Seow, her Master, Trainer M Walker and Trainer S Baertschiger, the Trainer of EXCELLING.

After considering the sectional timing, App Seow was told, in the opinion of the Stewards, that she should have made a greater effort to slow the pace in the middle stages of the event to allow her mount the best opportunity to finish the race off.

In taking no direct action against App Seow, the Stewards considered her relative inexperience and submissions from Trainer Baertschiger that the gelding is a very difficult horse to settle and had weakened similarly at its most recent run and that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 10 [TF0094]

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Wednesday, 10 February 2021, App WW Cheah, the rider of HEAVENLY DANCER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that passing the 1000m, he permitted his mount to shift outwards, when insufficiently clear of DIAMOND BEAUTY (TH Koh), which was then carried outwards across the line of LIM’S BESTBREAKER (T See), which checked.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from App Cheah that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meeting on Saturday, 13 February 2021.

App Cheah was suspended from riding in races with effect from Sunday, 14 February 2021 to Saturday, 27 February 2021 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Day) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.
