Singapore Stewards Press Release

SINGAPORE MARCH MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 03 MARCH 2019:

RACE 1 [TF0282]

On Tuesday, 12 March 2019, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the tactics adopted on HALLELUJAH in this particular race.  Further evidence was taken from Trainer KY Young and Jockey I Saifudin.

The Stewards also reviewed  the previous eight starts where the gelding had been ridden back in the field as opposed to being ridden positively and taking up a forward position in this race. The Stewards were satisfied having reviewed the performances that there were valid explanations that contributed to the gelding being ridden back due to incidents at the start except for its last start, albeit having drawn a wide barrier and subsequently being ridden back in the field.

Trainer KY Young pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 35(8) in that he failed to notify the Stewards prior to the race of his intentions to differ the tactics from its last start allowing the Stewards then to be able to notify the public.

After considering all the circumstances of this particular case, Trainer KY Young was fined a sum of S$1,000 and advised of his Right of Appeal.

Trainer KY Young was also advised that in accordance with MRA Rule 159(2)(m), the nomination for HALLELUJAH will not be accepted until such time as the Owners appear at a Stewards’ Inquiry after failing to do so today when requested and that necessary evidence be provided to satisfy the Stewards as to the bona fides of the ownership.

SINGAPORE MARCH MEETING 2019

FRIDAY, 08 MARCH 2019:

RACE 4 [TF0294]

The Inquiry into the ride of MURRAYFIELD in Race 4 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Friday, 08 March 2019 was concluded on Tuesday, 12 March 2019.

After taking evidence from App I Amirul and his Master, Trainer S Gray, App Amirul was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The specifics of the charge being that:

approaching the 300m, he elected to shift his mount outwards where there was no prospect of a clear run and subsequently had to check his mount off the heels of MIGHTY KENNY (M Kellady) when alternatively, he had a clear opportunity to improve his position between MIGHTY KENNY and TWICKENHAM (V Duric); and after the incident, he rode with insufficient vigour to the Winning Post.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards were satisfied that App Amirul’s decision to shift outwards approaching the 300m rather than improving into a run that presented at that point was a mere error of judgement but one that was considered to be blameworthy under the Rule and acknowledged his level of riding experience given App Amirul is a two kilo claiming Apprentice.

The Stewards also took into account the nature of the charge, his record, his personal circumstances and submissions from App Amirul that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, 15 March 2019 and Sunday, 17 March 2019.

App Amirul was suspended from riding in races with effect from Monday, 18 March 2019 to Wednesday, 17 April 2019 both dates inclusive (a period of one month) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 5 [TF0295]

The Inquiry into the ride of VENUS DE MILO in Race 5 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Friday, 08 March 2019 was concluded on Tuesday, 12 March 2019.

After taking evidence from Jockey R Zawari (pictured) and Trainer M Walker, the Trainer of VENUS DE MILO, and B Trainer Mr G Clutterbuck, Jockey Zawari was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The specifics of the charge being that after getting crowded at the start, he rode his mount in a manner where he covered excessive ground for the entire race. Whilst the Stewards noted the instructions were to avoid the kickback on the poly surface, the manner in which the instructions had been carried out was unacceptable and not to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge, his record and his personal circumstances.

Jockey Zawari was suspended from riding in races with immediate effect from Tuesday, 12 March 2019 to Saturday, 11 May 2019 both dates inclusive (a period of two months) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.
