Apprentice riders take centre stage at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday, adding extra intrigue to a competitive card. In-form apprentice Sifiso Bungane looks particularly well placed with several strong rides.
The feature is a competitive B Stakes over 1600m where the progressive Yamazaki appears well weighted to strike. Despite just one win from 11 starts, his consistency stands out and his recent second behind the improving Foudre reads well, with the form already producing subsequent winners. Trainer Justin Snaith keeps him on home soil and his overall form lines compare favourably with his rivals.
Handsome Prince remains talented but faces stamina queries, while Boogiefied arrives off a narrow course-and-distance victory and commands respect under Keagan de Melo.
Among the apprentice contests, Gimme The Power looks the runner to beat in race four after two solid efforts over the same course and distance. Leading apprentice Mxolisi Mbuto partners Black Erika in race six; the Adam Marcus-trained filly has improved steadily since shedding her maiden and should be competitive again.
Bungane has another strong opportunity in race eight aboard Backinthefastlane, who continues to progress since leaving the maiden ranks and should appreciate the return to 1600m.
Earlier, Enticement sets a high standard in race one after an impressive debut second behind promising company and looks hard to oppose. Miss Smiley could capitalise on a light weight in race two if producing her best form.
Ready For The Road steps up to 2000m in race three after a career-best second and shapes as a major contender, while Palace Gift seeks a hat-trick in race five with a useful 4kg claiming apprentice booked.
