Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million
(4) SUPER TTANGKONG ran a fair 4th on debut over this distance on December 27th showing handy throughout. She should have come on for that run and form a good draw she won’t need to improve very much to win this. (1) RAON KINGSMAN was 5th in both his first two starts before weakening over 1300M late on last time out. In this company he should get a soft run to the front and can go close. Both (9) VINCENT ALEX and (11) PARKA SHINE come in following improved 4th place finishes on their respective latest outings, and both should be aiming to match or better that here. The three debut-makers didn’t really catch the eye in trials with (10) ONLY YOU looking the better of them.

(1) COMEBACK HOLYMOELY has made progress across his three starts so far with a 4th, 3rd and most recently a 2nd place on December 13th when he led for most of the way over this distance before being beaten by Haksan Sword. He draws well on the inside to lead again, and he is favoured to go one better. (4) SUPERDAY has similarly showed plenty with three top four finishes in three starts. He was a close 2nd over 1300M on December 28th and should be firmly in this. (3) ROAD TO HEAT was 3rd in that race having led. He’s been 3rd in both starts and should be there or thereabouts again from on the pace. (9) PARAIBA and (5) SEMYEONG PEAK others in the frame in a competitive race.

(9) PORT MORE comes in off his best finish to date when 2nd over 1400M on January 9th, showing handy throughout. He comes up to the mile for the first time but there is no reason why it can’t suit, Seo Seung-un stays on, and he will be favourite. (2) DOROTHY QUEEN enters off a career best 3rd when beating several of today’s rivals at this distance on January 18th and in this company can be aiming to match or better that here. (7) BREEDO CAPTAIN was 4th in that race. He also has a 2nd on his record at this distance and that’s enough to have him in contention today. (4) CARAT KING and (5) K ROYAL other minor money chances.

(11) START UP was a winner on debut over 1000M in September and then returned in November to run 2nd at this class over 1200M. He makes his first start here in twelve weeks so he comes in fresh and while match fitness may be a question, he seems to have plenty of ability. (6) YONGBI SHINHWA is yet to win in six attempts but got promoted to this level with back-to-back runner-up finishes at this distance before running 4th on his first try at this class when unable to lead early as he likes. In this company he can get to the front and he can be in this a long way. (1) HAKSAN SWORD got a bit too far back early on January 10th but was a good winner in December (beating Comeback Holymoely who we should have seen in race 2) and he can get another chance here. (7) MUNHAK FIGHTER and (3) SMART HAESEONG others in the frame.

(4) POWERFUL RUBY will be favourite. After winning a trial she did nothing on debut but was a much better 4th at start two on January 2nd when handy throughout. She should have come on for that run and third-up she can be nice and fit for this. Speaking of doing nothing on debut, that applies to (2) CLUTCH RUNNER. He previously trialed well and Franco, who rode him in those heats but not on debut, climbing on catches the eye. (12) DIA X has plenty of experience and this is the kind of race he shouldn’t be far away in. (5) WORLD TRIPLE CAT and (10) QUEEN THE GOLD other place chances.

(5) PAS DE CHEVAL was 3rd on debut before winning at start number two over 1300M on December 27th when handy all the way. He is up in class and slightly in distance, but down 2.5kg in weight, and he is the one to beat here. (4) MIGHTY BEAT is similarly up in class following a maiden win. In his case, it arrived at start five, but it had been coming and he ran out a solid winner over this trip, settling misfield before striking the front just over a furlong out. He too gets a 2.5kg weight cut and should be right in this. (9) BREEDO KING STAR has a 2nd and a 4th from his latest two and under a light weight, can be there or thereabouts again. (3) GIDAEHARA and (6) MASTER PLAN, the latter 2nd to Mighty Beat last time out and also up in class, are others who can be considered.

(9) FAST MAN had a poor day at the office when favourite over 1400M on January 2nd, getting a good position from the widest gate but running out of steam. We’ll draw a line through that and instead go on his win over 1300M in December and dropping back in trip, give him another chance here. (6) DAESEONG GOLD win on debut in October at 1000M and has since run 4th and 2nd in two tries at this class, most recently over 1200M on Boxing Day when on the pace all the way and only narrowly going down. He is up 2kg in weight but will be disputing favourite status. (1) HIGH BEAUTY was a winner at start three over this distance on December 28th leading all the way. He is up in class, but well drawn, and he can measure up. (2) TAEYANG EUTTEUM and (4) SWEET BELLE others in the frame.

We’ll take a chance on (9) BREEDO TROPHY. He enters in fair form with two 3rd places and a 5th from his latest three and he likes to run on so the wide gate is no problem. His sole win came at this distance and while he doesn’t get an apprentice claim today, he has as much chance as any at what should be an each-way price. (1) SEOMDOLMORU is yet to win in ten attempts but has six top four finishes including two 2nd places at this distance. He draws very nicely to lead and can be in this a long way. (3) BYEOKSONG was a 25/1 winner at this class and distance on December 21st. He comes up 4kg today but that’s balanced by a good gate, and he can be in the mix again. (6) RAPTURE and (5) ECHO STAR others in the hunt.

(3) SHACKLE SUN is a thirteen-race maiden, but he is ultra-consistent finishing between 2nd and 4th in each of his last eight stats. He has placed twice at this distance and while he doesn’t get an apprentice claim today, he draws well and this could be his day. Should he manage to find one too quick again – and frankly, he might – (7) TIGER MONSTER looks the obvious candidate. He returned from over three months off to run 2nd at this class over 1300M, and he can strip fitter here on what is only his fourth start. (8) ROAD TO HEUIMANG was 4th at this class and distance on January 2nd and can match or better that here. (5) DREAM RACER and (10) SINCHEON FREEDOM are the other main chances.

(2) HANMADIMALDO got his maiden win at start ten over this distance on December 27th, showing on pace and winning comfortably. He comes up in class, but he draws well and he has every chance of going back-to-back. (9) DUSEON EUTTEUM was a winner at this class and distance on December 27th, his first effort at this level, leading all the way around. He comes up 5kg in weight and gets a less favourable gate, but a repeat is not to be dismissed. (1) QUANTUM K is up in class following two consecutive runner-up finishes at this class over 1400M and 1300M. He has never actually run over this trip but draws well to be on the speed and can be in the finish. (11) DANDI and (10) BURUI SEGYE others in the placing hunt.

(3) SO GOOD was a winner at this class and distance on January 2nd, settling just behind the speed and proving too strong. He has nine top four finishes and while he is up 3.5kg in weight, he can win again. (1) BEOLMA BROWN hasn’t won for a while, but his recent form reads well enough. He last raced over this distance three starts back when only narrowly failing to get up and running 2nd at this class. Seo Seung-un gets on for the first time and that will see him well backed. (12) YONGAM BLACK won at this distance at class 5 level in September before running 3rd on his first try at this class on December 14th. He looked well in a trial earlier this month and while he has the challenge of the wide gate, he can be a contender here. (7) HOLY RUN and (11) ROAD TO SPRING others who can challenge.

(2) GWANAKSAN WONDERFUL was a winner at class 5 level over 1400M two starts back, before finishing 2nd to Legend Wow at 1700M on her first try at this class on December 6th. She comes in fresh following right weeks off and the mile can suit. (1) FLUTTER has won two in a row to get rapidly promoted to this level, leading all the way both times over 1200M and 1300M. Today is just his fourth start and he is up to a mile for the first time, but he looks to have plenty of potential. (7) DANAEUN KINGDOM made the rapid step up to this class by winning at starts two and three before finishing 4th on his first outing at this level. That was last April and he hasn’t raced since but he was gelded during the long layoff and looked well in a Boxing Day trial. He can be a factor first up. (4) VINCERO KING and (5) GIANT BOSS are others in the frame.

(5) FUNNY WILD won on debut in emphatic fashion last August before running 3rd in Listed juvenile company in October and 4th in the G2 Breeders’ Cup Rookie. He returned to winning ways when stepped up to a mile on December 28th and leading all the way and kicking off his three-year-old campaign over the Derby distance and at this class for the first time, he should have far too much. The rest all need to lift. (7) ANN BUNNY wasn’t too far away when 6th of eleven at this class and distance on December 28th. She preceded that with a win and three consecutive 2nd place finishes, and she should be close here. (12) THE WIND was a class and distance winner two starts back and that’s enough to put him in placing contention. (6) LIME TREE and (4) TAMARKUZ KING are the other minor money chances.

He was a well beaten favourite on December 27th but came back lame and while he hasn’t trialed since, he came back into work on January 16th and if fit, should win this. (2) HAEK DIA was well back behind Heunghaeng Dolpung in November but was a smart 3rd at this class and distance on December 20th. She stays under a light weight and should be right in this. (5) EXCELLENT MATTA stepped up to his trip for the first time on December 27th and ran 2nd. It’s fair to say she doesn’t win out of turn, but she has an excellent record of finishing in the money and should do so again. (4) PASA SPARK and (10) M J CLASS others in the frame.

His streak came to an end on November 16th when he was an on pace 2nd in a quick race over a mile He hasn’t raced since so comes in here fresh and can return to winning ways. (1) MAGARITA has won her latest two, both over 1400M and bot times coming from well off the pace. She is up in class and while previous tries at a mile haven’t been successful, her recent racing style suggests she is ready for another try. (7) MY DREAM DAY won the final leg of last year’s Triple Crown and followed it up with a win at this class and distance. He struggled in the G1 President’s Cup and was only ordinary behind Oasis Red last time out, but he isn’t to be underestimated at this level. Class 1 but with a rating cap of 100. (1) BLACK BELT was overmatched in the Grand Prix but ran 4th over 2000M at this level on December 28th, beating a couple of today’s rivals. Under today’s conditions, he finds himself towards the top of the weights, but he has as good a chance as any. (2) VICS GO would be top weight, but has it mitigated by an apprentice claiming 3kg. He was 3rd at this class over a mile on January 4th and is a danger here. (7) G MOTION is a stablemate of Black Belt and comes in here having won two of his latest three, most recently at 2000M on December 20th. He comes up in class and in trip but is down in weight and he can win here. (2) ENDING FIRE is a twenty-three-race maiden but while he was only 6th last tie out at class and distance, he wasn’t far away. He has no fewer than thirteen top four finishes and this is the kind of race he can place in at probably big odds. (1) NANO MASIN and (7) HERO SOCKS came home 3rd and 4th when they raced one another at this class and distance on January 4th and both can be in the mix again here.
