Despite a stellar record with multiple Group 1 wins, See It Again has sometimes disappointed, including recent issues with the starting stalls. A change of routine, climate, and trainer to Justin Snaith’s Phillippi yard has revitalized him. He has run two solid races, finishing close up but unlucky in both.
Andrew Fortune takes the ride, known for getting the best from his mounts. With stablemate Okavango likely to set the pace, See It Again could have a clear run from a wide draw in the 11-horse Group 1 WSB Met on 31 January, aiming for a second Group 1 victory.
Other notable runners include last year’s Met winner Eight On Eighteen, who should improve after a five-month break, and The Real Prince, peaking for trainer Dean Kannemeyer. Gladatorian, despite a disappointing King’s Plate, remains dangerous with his proven turn of foot, while Garrix and The Equator could upset if favorites falter.
The supporting feature is the Group 1 Maine Chance Farms Majorca Stakes, where Double Grand Slam seeks redemption after a hot defeat in the Paddock Stakes. Oisin Murphy rides, while Mon Petit Cherie and Quickstepgal, trained by Tienie Prinsloo, are expected to challenge over the mile. Asiye Phambili, in strong form, completes a competitive lineup.
If See It Again repeats his best form, he could overshadow the field, while Fortune could claim both Group 1 races on the day.
