On a demanding card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday, The Night Ferry looks a runner worth siding with in Race 6 over 1400m. Now firmly on the up for returning trainer Herman Brown, he has rediscovered form after a mid-year win and has been knocking hard on the door, finishing fourth, then runner-up twice in stronger company. A drop back in trip and the booking of René Piechulek could prove decisive.
Brown’s resurgence is also evident in Race 7, where Hiawatha Goldberg continues to thrive since being switched to sprinting. He was a winner two runs back and ran with credit behind Worldly last time, making him a live chance over 1000m if not taken on too early.
Earlier on the card, Gimme The Power may find her best opportunity yet in an open maiden over 1250m after returning to a sprint. Mercenary stands out as the best bet in Race 2 over 1600m, having been unlucky two starts ago and then finishing a solid second last time. He looks ready to break through under Keagan de Melo.
Greek Heiress is overdue a win in Race 3 over 1600m, with blinkers helping her close the gap, while Leif Erikson shapes as a lively contender in Race 4 over 2000m after an improved fourth last time in a race that has since produced a winner.
Tothemoonandback has been consistently finding stronger rivals too good and should have every chance of going one better in Race 5 over 2000m. The finale is open, with Eisteddfod, William’s Woman and recent winners True Horizon and Wyze Declaration all deserving consideration.
