No cutting corners with Circumbendibus

Circumbendibus “环线巴士”

Despite a busy festive programme stretching local stables, next Wednesday’s seven-race polytrack card still offers depth for punters prepared to do their homework. The feature is a B Stakes over 1200m, where Glen Kotzen’s Circumbendibus chases a hat-trick.

Circumbendibus has impressed in his last two wins and, while a 12-point rise in the ratings poses a sterner test, his manner of victory suggests he can remain competitive. Mvelelo looms as a major threat in search of a fourth straight win, though a five-point penalty may blunt his momentum. Buttercup Baby, well weighted and effective over course and distance, must also be respected, while visiting Wild At War represents Candice and Tammy Dawson and could improve now down in the ratings.

The opening race could provide the best bet, with the De Kock-trained Strutting narrowly denied last time out. Dropping back in trip, she looks well placed in a modest contest. Harpa, with blinkers reapplied, and Anemie are next best.

Race 2 is a competitive handicap. Rafiki returns fresh and enjoys the poly, while recent winner Ibutho and stablemate Winter Waves should be closely matched. Ultra Quick, back on his preferred surface with a 4kg claimer engaged, is another serious contender.

The Pick 6 kicks off in race 3 where Isivivane, a strong poly performer, steps up in trip after a good second in the Christmas Handicap. Sundance Kid and Eventidor both chase hat-tricks, while lightly weighted Star In Motion could improve back in KZN.

Race 4 is a wide-open sprint. Summer Winter should now be peaking, Miss Munroe can rebound with gear changes, and Louis Goosen’s Arverni Princess and Malshana Mou both have solid claims.

The remaining races are similarly open, with Grand Force, Cappellino and Axis Power featuring in race 5, while Izibulo, Copacabana and several others hold chances in the finale.
