RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: TURFFONTEIN STANDSIDE@2025.12.30
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R130.000, 11:45GMT+2
Race Summary: TURN IT UP, who has a high-quality pedigree, ran on well to take the second cheque in a strong contest on Betway Summer Cup raceday and rates the one to beat. BUFFALO KING CODY has a pedigree full of speed and should make big improvement after finishing only 1.95 lengths behind TURN IT UP. He was also making his debut but it is important to note that he is carded to run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on 26 December. More with place potential but there are well-bred newcomers in the race, so follow the betting action closely.
Selections: #8 Turn It Up, #1 Buffalo King Cody, #7 Theodore Rooseveld, #4 Spirit Of Gabz
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R105.000, 12:20GMT+2
Race Summary: There wasn’t much to choose between Rafeef filly DUCHESS ZAHRA and Pathfork filly ELEGANT EDGE on debut. The former had the edge then finishing 0.90 lengths ahead is 2kg worse off. ELEGANT EDGE will, however, need to jump on terms to take full advantage. BELL OF ANGELUS lost form in KwaZulu-Natal but showed fair potential earlier and needs to be watched on her debut for trainer Brett Webber. PRINCESS OF ALL tired late over further last time and should prefer the drop in distance. There are two first-timers in the hunt.
Selections: #5 Elegant Edge, #4 Duchess Zahra, #1 Princess Of All, #2 Bell Of Angelus
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 3, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R120.000, 12:55GMT+2
Race Summary: ROCK MUSIC was a different horse when tried with blinkers. He was easily beaten by another sudden improver but he did finish second best after showing good pace and must build on the effort. TAKING A RISK would be deserving after finishing runner up in her last three races. The drop in distance should not pose a problem for the speedy sort. FRANKIE FAHRENHEIT seems capable of better than what he has previously shown over the distance. Hopefully he jumps on terms today. UNDERDOG has earning potential, there are more with improvement to come
Selections: #1 Rock Music, #8 Taking A Risk, #2 Frankie Fahrenheit, #3 Underdog
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R105.000, 13:30GMT+2
Race Summary: THE REASON came in for some support on debut but it was in her second start that she showed decent potential. She stayed on well in third and is looking for the distance. There are two runners with much experience and both are knocking at the door. DELAWARE RIVER can go one better after finishing second best over the course and distance last time. She was beaten as favourite but now has gate No 1 and should have no excuses. WINDS OF GRACE’s overdue maiden win can come at any time it seems but she did finish behind DELAWARE RIVER when they last met.
Selections: #3 Delaware River, #9 The Reason, #1 Winds Of Grace, #8 Master’s Rose
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 14:05GMT+2
Race Summary: TROMBOLINES was gallant in defeat when beaten only 0.50 lengths on debut while giving a more experienced sort 2.5kg. He is also bred for ground which made the effort more credible. But he needs to transition to the turn and will need to learn fast. STAY TUNED is an older horse with decent form and he could be tough to fend off. The Futura gelding has been off for a while, he is carded to run on 27 December. REECE’S WISH is looking to go one better after having finished second in his two starts to date. LE TURBO isn’t without claims either.
Selections: #8 Trombolines, #3 Stay Tuned, #10 Reece’s Wish, #5 Le Turbo
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 6, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R130.000, 14:40GMT+2
Race Summary: PARISIAN WALKWAY tried his luck in the R6-million Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup but things didn’t work out for him. He retains high-class ability, is best weighted and could be hard to peg back if back at his best. SPEEDMAN isn’t anywhere close in terms of merit ratings but is unbeaten in two starts and could be anything, especially over the longer distance. SOLAR SAIL has had some tough luck of late. He is capable but is carded to run over this distance on 27 December and must be watched there before making a final assessment of his chances.
Selections: #1 Parisian Walkway, #4 Speedman, #3 Solar Sail, #5 Zanthar
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 7, Gallops, 2400m, Turf, R200.000, 15:15GMT+2
Race Summary: Nine-year-old NEBRAAS is in good form and would be deserving. He had UNITED COUNCIL 1.50 lengths behind in the Listed Java Stakes and could confirm at the same weight terms. UNITED COUNCIL goes well for Muzi Yeni and is best weighted so could turn it around. Watch out for POETS WARRIOR who can be hard to catch when in a galloping mood. He is back from a rest and must be respected. NAVAJO NATION has been taking on the best around of late and if seeing it out could be very dangerous.
Selections: #3 Navajo Nation, #5 United Council, #4 Nebraas, #2 Poets Warrior
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 8, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R120.000, 15:55GMT+2
Race Summary: TEXAS MISSILE ran out an easy winner of his third start. He relished the extra but did meet weaker and will be tested. REAL STUNNER had been knocking but he won his last race in facile fashion and perhaps now may realise his true potential. MILITARY MOVES has done little wrong and there should be more to come given time. It doesn’t end there. ZIP CODE stayed on in his last start. He could now be looking for the ground.
Selections: #4 Texas Missile, #5 Real Stunner, #9 Military Moves, #2 Zip Code
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 9, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R90.000, 16:30GMT+2
Race Summary: THE MIGHTIEST got her confidence boosted last time. She ran on well to beat some useful sorts and could show the strength of the form even though lumping top weight. MICHAEL FARADAY popped up again with a decent run. He jumps from a decent gate and should have every chance on his track debut. APOSTROPHE won what was a crowded finish. It was only her third start and she could be happy to be in the fight again. COMMANDER OF ALL has beaten THE MIGHTIEST and MICHAEL FARADAY, needs to be taken seriously as well.
Selections: #1 The Mightiest, #2 Michael Faraday, #3 Apostrophe, #7 Commander Of All
Turffontein Standside, 30.12.2025, Race 10, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 17:00GMT+2
Race Summary: GUERILLA WARFARE has been knocking at the door and could finally get rewarded. He has drawn well and should have every chance on form. WAR OF KINGDOMS over-raced in his only try over the distance. He has done well against stronger and must go close if settling better. TOMMY ATKINS showed good resolve to get there for his maiden win and has room for further improvement. FATHER CHRISTMAS should prefer returning to racing over 1400m. He has a prior engagement that must be checked. Most have money chances and it could pay to get involved in TAB’s Quartet bet.
Selections: #4 Guerilla Warfare, #2 War Of Kingdoms, #9 Tommy Atkins, #7 Father Christmas
Best Win: #8 TURN IT UP
Best Value Bet: #4 GUERILLA WARFARE
Best Longshot: #4 GUERILLA WARFARE
