Although he must give weight to Luhamba Phambili, the pair were closely matched in the Listed In Full Flight Handicap earlier this year, and King Of The Gauls went on to finish an excellent third in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint. With pole position, his preferred trip, and Serino Moodley in top form, he could prove hard to run down. Luhamba Phambili will be chasing from draw two, while Vihaan’s Web, with S’Manga Khumalo aboard, may pounce late if the leaders set it up.
In the first leg of the Pick 6, What A Passion should take beating after a strong run with blinkers last time and can hold off Priory Terrace and Warrior Rose. The 1400m Maiden that follows looks open, but Strutting may improve over the longer trip, with Roy’s Blossom a danger.
Moscow Miss can bounce back in Race 5 from a good draw, while Prankster and Call Me Jane have claims. Dawn Surprise is lightly raced on the poly and can follow up in Race 6, though Nile The Boss brings strong Cape form.
In Race 7, Professor Lupin appeals dropping back in distance, with Firelighter and Bank Street in the mix. The finale sees Navajo Dancer knocking on the door, with Ndaka and Willow Gem worth including. The meeting opener should suit Grand Force, well drawn to strike.
