Trainer Dean Kannemeyer, a proven force in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas, might have his best-ever crop of three-year-old colts — and Gimmie Rules looks the standout. The impeccably bred full brother to Gimme A Prince and Gimmie’s Countess lines up in Race 3 (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday as a key prep for next month’s Guineas.
A winner in two of his three starts, his only defeat came when luck deserted him behind What A Fortune. His last victory — a commanding 2.5-length success over Kelp Forest at Durbanville — marked him as a serious prospect. With Craig Zackey aboard, a bold showing here would cement his Guineas credentials.
Jet Force, another with smart ability, provides a genuine test. The Des McLachlan-trained colt impressed when beating Absolutely Yes over this trip and could push Gimmie Rules close. Handsome Prince, though below best over 1600m last time, may fill the placings.
Kannemeyer also saddles Gallic Victor in Race 5 (1950m), a colt still learning but showing strong potential after a fast-finishing second behind Mente Et Manu. He’s one to follow with Zackey again aboard.
Other notables on the card include Elusive Winter in Race 2 (1000m), a trip specialist who looks the best bet of the day after strong recent form for Michelle Rix and Gareth Wright. Mela Strength, partnered again by apprentice Girish Samo-Burthia, can go back-to-back in Race 4 (1400m) after a gritty win over Prince Of Tibet.
Later, Demanding Dave (Race 8) seeks redemption after losing in the boardroom last time, while Inside Voice (Race 9) chases a hat-trick following a runaway 4.5-length win — marking her as one to watch for Vaughan Marshall.
