November 8 Selangor Preview By Mark Lydeamore

Five-year-old galloper, GENRICH is a chance to break through in the 1020m Class 5A contest (Race 2) following his head defeat here a fortnight ago. After trying to lead throughout he was nailed right on the line and after several encouraging performances at Class 4 level, GENRICH will be a major player, second run back in the grade. GRAND SUPREME finally delivered a Malaysian victory as an even money favourite last start and looks set to maintain form. THUNDER STAR has chalked up three wins locally, all at this track and distance, and his last start 3rd suggests another win is coming soon.

DIGGING EIGHT has been more consistent this campaign and is a winning chance in the other division of the Class 5A (Race 3) over 1020m on Track Two. The six-year-old led and was overhauled by GRAND SUPREME but two of his three Malaysian victories have been recorded over this track and distance and looks well placed from the good draw. SANTINO should be primed following five runs this preparation, second start back in Class 5, but his lack of early pace can work against his chances. SUPER MANJUNG is an on-pace runner which doesn’t win too often but his gate speed ensures he will position handy in the run.

After failing in the Listed NZB Ready To Run Open Championship, SINGHA BAY bounced back on the massive downgrade to strike a blow against Class 4 company at the lucrative odds of RM 74 a fortnight ago. The four-year-old will carry a similar weight after the Z Syafifie claim and is on track for successive wins in the 1150m Class 4B (Race 5). The form of MAZE can be hard to follow at times but his drop back to the “B” division is a significant factor. RELEASE THE SPIRIT has been around the mark in four runs this campaign and is a definite trifecta chance.

LEGEND SIXTY-THREE appears to be one of the better best for the program in the 1150m Class 4B contest (Race 6). Despite the solitary win from eleven Malaysian starts, the four-year-old caught the eye with a fast finishing 2nd behind SINGHA BAY recently and looks well served with the 54 kg. PLATINUM BOSS is due to strike locally after eight runs but his lack of early speed has proved costly in his past few efforts. The seven-year-old has descended to a winnable rating and could provide the value. GOLD MEDAL ROSE has been luckless at her past two starts but the Ooi Chin Chin stable has been on fire in recent weeks and the mare could strike back without surprising.

PALETAS has one of the best first up records going around (8:5-0-1) and will be looking to maintain his unbeaten local record in the 1020m Class 3 (Race 7). The nine year old has been riddled with injury issues throughout his career, hence only the three starts this year, all spaced from two to three months apart. First up since August 2, the big query is whether PALETAS has the ability to score when resuming against Class 3 company as he will be pitted against a couple of handy types already proven at this level. YES MAN resumes since breaking his Class 3 duck here on September 6 and his impressive trial on the sand during the week suggests he is ready for a first up tilt. Former Australian galloper, BANKER’S PRETTY failed to settle and had the tendency to over race when resuming two weeks ago over 1300m. The gelding has won second up previously and will be suited by the drop in distance.

If BIG DAY can emulate the form he displayed when based in Kranji, he could finally deliver a win for trainer Jerome Tan in the 1400m Class 5B (Race 11) at start twelve in the country. His form on paper is not inspiring, however, four of his seven career wins have been recorded over 1400m. The nine-year-old does lack some early pace but he strikes a winnable contest on Saturday and could provide some value. PACIFIC EMPIRE is a former Class 3 galloper on a career low mark of 34 points and will be aiming to break a sixteen-month winning drought. HEALTHY BABY does tend to mix his form but this Class 5 race is not overly strong and the gelding did win with 57kg over 1500m back in September.
