In-form fillies can continue winning ways

Thursday’s eight-race Turffontein Inside meeting features several in-form fillies expected to maintain their winning form, with Sean Tarry’s runners well placed to open and close the card.

In Race 1, the Work Riders’ Maiden over 1450m, Trail Runner returns from a short break after a strong second over 1200m at the Vaal Classic. The Lancaster Bomber filly should relish the extra ground, and with Sam Mosia aboard, she looks primed to shed her maiden tag.

Tarry’s Peace Treaty lines up in the Race 8 finale over 2000m. The Act Of War gelding hinted at a return to form when finishing strongly for second at the Vaal and could finally end a lengthy drought under Serino Moodley.

The standout performer on the card is Hazy Dazy, who bids for her fourth consecutive win in Race 5 over 1800m. The Corne Spies-trained filly has been improving rapidly, and even with a small penalty, Trent Mayhew’s 1.5kg claim should help her continue her rise despite tougher opposition from Streisand, Future Date, and Kissing Machine.

Another filly in fine form is Nkwenkwezi, who has found her stride for Clinton Binda after back-to-back wins, including a surprise 20-1 victory last time out. Though carrying 60kg in Race 6, she remains a live contender with Calvin Habib retaining the ride.

Habib also partners Frangipani in Race 4, whose consistent recent runs behind both Hazy Dazy and Nkwenkwezi suggest she’s close to a breakthrough.
