October Storm can strike in September

October Storm

Racing at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Monday features several exciting prospects, including two races for apprentice riders and a number of highly regarded three-year-olds stepping out on their way to bigger targets.

The spotlight falls on October Storm in Race 7 over 1000m. The Vaughan Marshall-trained colt, a half-brother to former Champion Sprinter Thunderstruck, is still learning his trade but looks a big improver. He won smartly on debut before finishing fifth in heavy going behind mudlark Escarpment. With Craig Zackey in the saddle and draw 1 in his favour, he should go close. His main danger is Magical Place, who beat a modest field by nearly five lengths at this track and reunites with top rider Richard Fourie. African Memoir, partnered by in-form Serino Moodley, also warrants inclusion.

Earlier, Moodley has strong claims with Chance Encounter in Race 3 over 1600m. A full brother to Grade 1 winner Chansonette, he has been consistent and only needs fitness on his side after a break.

The opening races look good for Fourie, who rides Siriano in Race 1 and Gold Giboski in Race 2. The latter has been costly to follow but is overdue a win, especially with main rival Digby drawn wide. In Race 4, champion apprentice Brevan Plaatjies can score aboard Hazel Green, whose consistency makes her a leading chance.

Race 5 is loaded with talent, with lightly raced sorts like Star Major, Gimmie Rules, and Saudi Cat all held in high regard. Boogiefied, well drawn, brings race experience and should not be ignored. Later, Angel’s Oasis (Race 6) and Lady Look Alike (Race 8) are consistent types, while Aldo Domeyer’s sole ride of the day, King’s Quest in Race 9, looks a major threat despite a wide draw.
