Hierarchy looks to be upper crust

Duncan Howells’ filly Hierarchy returns to action at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday and looks the class act in the Progress Plate over 1000m. Last season, she went close to causing an upset in the Gr2 Debutante, beaten less than a length by Princess Of Gaul and Elegantrix, both proven Group performers. That effort earned her a sharp ratings hike, but on exposed form, she sets the standard here.

Her main danger is likely Luhamba Phambili, a recent course-and-distance winner for Gareth van Zyl. He brings solid recent form but must concede 10.5kg to the filly, which could prove decisive. Major Tommie, unlucky last time out, gets the services of in-form jockey Serino Moodley and could also feature. Among others, Blazing Beauty is improving for her new stable, while Robbie Hill’s Dark Matter steps up in class after two comfortable wins and could surprise with a light weight.

The undercard has several promising types. In Race 1, Yogas Govender saddles Son Of Rafeef, who finished strongly on debut behind the promising Hah Lah Lah. With that form holding up, he looks the one to beat if improving second time out. Govender could strike again in Race 4 with Jet Blackfire, who showed marked improvement with cheekpieces and should be competitive, though Master Silvano and Pied Piper pose threats.

The fifth is a tricky handicap with Schipole, Town Crier and Roy Taking Off all capable, while the lightly raced Gorgeous Cape adds intrigue. In Race 6, Fascination could follow up her maiden win, though Cappellino and Navajo Dancer are strong dangers.

Later, Master Bomber and Terminator look set to fight out Race 8, while the finale features progressive Wild Justice against Cape imports Counter Attack and Circumbendibus, both live contenders.
