Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Special Weight A / KRW 45 Million
Juvenile maidens with all but three racing for the first time. For once we will side with a newcomer and (4) SEONGSIL WINNER. She led for much of the way around a trail at the end of July, crossing the line a close 3rd and stopping the clock in a good time. Drawn well, if she leads, she may be hard to get past. (8) BEST CHEONHA was the next best in trials, showing on pace and also running 3rd. Moon Se-young being booked means she will have plenty of supporters. (9) HORIZON STAR took two goes to qualify but improved second time around and can also make an impact first up. Of the experienced three, (1) BLACK SUN and (7) GHOST have both raced twice and their match sharpness can see them improve.

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million
After finishing 5th on debut, (9) NAMSAN MINYEO was 2nd at start two over 1300M on August 17th, racing handy throughout. An apprentice jockey claims 3kg today, third up she can be peaking, and she can win here. Probable betting favourite is (2) JILPUNGA, who enters off back-to-back 3rd place finishes from his latest two, most recently in that August 17th race behind Namsan Minyeo. He only has a head to make up and he comes into a much better gate. After an inauspicious debut, (5) TRIPLE JENNY has three consecutive top five finishes and she should be aiming to improve again. (1) HERO CHOICE and (4) GRAND PARK are others who can be in the mix.

Seoul Race 3: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million
(2) FREE TIME was a winner on debut and then took a few goes to figure things out at this class before winning over 1300M on June 29th when on pace throughout. He comes up 3.5kg in weight today but that’s balanced by a similar draw to last time that should allow him easy passage to the front, and he looks to have the most upside here. (10) WINNER GLORY comes up in class and in distance having got her maiden win in comprehensive fashion at start number five on June 15th. She has had almost three months off, but she is down 3kg in weight and can measure up. (6) SHINE BOLT enters off a 2nd at this class over 1300M on August 17th at a big price and warrants more respect here. (7) HAKSAN PRINCE and (11) YES MADAM others in the placing frame.

Seoul Race 4: Class Open (1200M) Special Weight B / SPPL Trophy / KRW 150 Million
The first of five valuable Trophy races and while it is rating capped to the equivalent of class 3, it’s an absolute cracker of a race with no fewer than seven last start winners. (3) SILVER RAIN won a Listed juvenile event on this weekend a year ago but missed the Triple Crown through injury. He won on his return at class 4 level at the end of June and then beat a couple of these on his way to 2nd at class 3 level and 1400M on July 27th. From a good draw, he can lead all the way. (13) CHAN FAMOUS won Seoul’s Classic Trial in February but found things hard in the first two legs of the Triple Crown. He returned to winning ways at a mile at class 3 on August 16th and while this may be a little short, can be worth a go at an each-way price. (10) BEST RACE is a winner of three of his last four and should be close. (11) HAKSAN SPEED and (7) GOLDEN DRAGON among plenty of other chances.

Seoul Race 5: Class Open (1700M) Special Weight B / Race Coast KZN Trophy / KRW 150 Million
Capped at a rating of 80 so equivalent to class 2, and while it’s a small field, it is competitive. (3) ONE PUNCH DRAGON is a winner of six of his eight starts, including his latest three, most recently at class 2 over a mile on July 19th. He’ll be on pace and is very much the one to beat. (8) BROWN GOLD might have taken a shy at the Korea Cup stumps, but he goes here instead having won all of his last four up to class 2 and 2000M. Weight is no problem, the draw is no problem, and five in a row is not impossible. (2) GANGNAMBULCHUNGGAK is a half-brother to champion mare Jeulgeounyeojeong and he was a winner of a Trophy race on this day a year ago. He has had his setbacks since but returned from a four-month layoff to run 3rd at 1200M on August 3rd. That should serve as the ideal lead-up to this and he can be in the finish having been 2nd on his only previous spin around 1700M. (1) KING HONOR and (4) DRONE KILLER are other place chances.

Seoul Race 6: Class Open (1400M) Special Weight B / Selangor Turf Club Trophy / KRW 150 Million
Equivalent to class 2 and another really good race. (4) SHADOW HUNTER is a winner of five from fourteen and comes in following a very close 2nd place over this distance at class 2 level on July 13th when handy throughout. He draws well here, Ruan Maia stays on, and he is the one to beat. (1) CAPTAIN P.K. was Seoul’s top juvenile last year but only made it to the first leg of the Triple Crown where he struggled over the mile. That’s his only time outside of the top five and he was a good winner at class 3 level over this distance on July 13th, racing on the speed. Moon Se-young rode him for the first time that day and he stays on here with solid claims to take on the favourite. (5) DAEMUL beat three of today’s rivals on his way to a class 2 victory on July 5th coming from well off the pace, and he can be in the mix again. (8) TAEPYEONG LEGEND and (7) SPALTA, are others in the hunt.

Seoul Race 7: Class Open (1800M) Special Weight B / JRA Trophy / KRW 150 Million
A rating cap of 90. (4) SATANG SONYEO has won her latest two taking her to a record of four wins from eight starts. Her most recent was at class 2 over 2000M and she has won at this distance too. She stays under a light weight here, Furkan has ridden her to all her wins so far, and he can ride her to another here, probably sitting just behind the speed and running on. (7) NEW DOLKONG was a class 3 winner over this distance two starts back before running 2nd on his first try at this class over 2000M on August 16th. Maia continues aboard and he shapes as the main danger to the filly here. (1) SAENAE TOWN has plenty of class 2 experience and while her recent form is at shorter distance, she is a two-time winner at 1800M and can be a threat. (8) AMERICA GOLD – a stablemate of Satang Sonyeo – returns for the first time since the Grand Prix Stakes last December and having looked sound in an August trial, is the wildcard. All the rest have placing chances too with maybe (5) SPEED ONE the best of them.

Seoul Race 8: Class Open (1200M) Special Weight B / OSAF Trophy / KRW 150 Million
Fillies and mares only with a rating cap of 80 so equivalent to class 2. It’s hard to look far past (2) HAENGBOKAN SEUNGJA. A two-time winner at this distance, she comes in following a win and a runner-up finish at class 2 level over 1400M and a mile in her latest two, coming from just behind the speed both times. From a good draw, Kozzi can pick his spot, and she can win. (3) GWANAKSAN O TWO is a rapid up and comer who has won three of her last four. She may run into one too quick here, but she will be on pace and can be in this a long way. (1) BLUE LEMON won a Trophy race at 1800M in April and while she then had a hard time in two Queens’ Tour races, she may appreciate dropping back down to a distance at which she has won two out of four times. (8) EAST JUMP and (9) CAPTAIN TIME other place chances.

Seoul Race 9: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million
(1) PINE PINK got her maiden win at start number four over this class and distance on August 2nd, racing handy throughout. She comes up 2.5 kg in weight, but she draws very nicely and it’s hard to see her getting beaten here. That’s because the rest enter with less than convincing recent form. (7) GWANAKSAN GLOBAL was a maiden winner three starts back at 1700M. He has a 5th and a 6th from two subsequent starts at this class but as a front-runner may be more competitive cutting back in trip here. (4) GOOD FRIEND is yet to win in eleven but has raced fairly in three tries at this class and can be in the mix in this kind of company. (2) WORLD VARIANCE and (6) EUNPA MUSIC are perhaps the best of an out of form rest.

Seoul Race 10: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(6) WESTERN GUN will be a warm favourite. He was a good winner at this class and distance on August 2nd, settling just behind the speed and running on, and while he does come up 3kg in weight, Moon Se-young stays on and he can win again. (11) MALSGO took nine goes to get his maiden win, but he evidently enjoyed it because he promptly came out and repeated. Both were at 1300M and bring him up rapidly in class, but he is under a light weight, and he can measure up. (4) TAEKHAN mixes his form, but he has won at this distance and in this company, he can be on the pace. (1) SMART SOCKS and (5) GEUMAK JINJU, at least with a line drawn through his latest, are others to consider on a place line.

Seoul Race 11: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Competitive nightcap. (11) BILLION BOY won back-to-back races in May and June to get rapidly promoted to this class and while he was beaten into 5th as favourite on his hirst try at this level on July 26th, he warrants another chance here. Moon Se-young stays on and with a light weight, he can win. He will need to overturn the form on (1) HI KHAN, who won that July 26th race, coming from well off the pace. He comes up 3kg in weight but is not to be dismissed. (7) NAMSAN MINAM is up in class following victory at this distance on August 16th when he led all the way. He is down 2.5kg in weight and should be competitive. (10) GLOBAL PHAROAH and (6) GOLDBERG among plenty of other chances.
