Former Australian galloper FRIGHT wasted no time opening his local account and will be out to make it two in a row in the 1275m Class 4A contest at Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
The four-year-old arrived in Malaysia with three minor placings from four starts and struck immediately, shedding his maiden tag over 1150m on August 17. On that occasion, he led from the outset and coasted home by 3.75 lengths, stopping the clock at a smart 1:06.20 on a yielding track.
Drawn in barrier five this weekend, FRIGHT once again shapes as the horse to beat.
Six-year-old POPEYETHESAILORMAN made a resounding return to form when scoring second-up last start and looks well-placed to back it up in the 1020m Class 3 contest this Saturday.
The Nick Selvan-trained runner had suffered a bleeding attack in the 5YO Wilyah Silver Bowl in February but announced his comeback with an eye-catching second at big odds on August 2. He then rediscovered the sharp form he showed early last season, sprinting clear to defeat YES MAN by 1.75 lengths on August 17 over this same trip.
Facing a similar line-up once more – including his last-start runner-up – POPEYETHESAILORMAN will be chasing his fifth career victory at just his tenth start.
