Andrew Fortune returns from his Australian stint with two strong rides at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday night, including Future Variety in the 1400m A Stakes, the feature of the nine-race card.
Future Variety, trained by Candice Bass-Robinson from her new Summerveld satellite yard under the experienced Terry Fripp, comes into the race after two consecutive wins, including the Gr3 Umkomazi Stakes. With the best draw, he looks poised for another big run. The main danger is The Shepherd from Peter Muscutt’s yard, who should improve after a comeback run, while African Skyline, aided by a 4kg claim, also looks a threat.
The sixth race handicap is wide open. Rosh Kedesh is in good form after a smart last win but faces tougher weight conditions this time. Amor Fati is lightly raced and progressing, while Plaza Accord and Nelson Bay both get weight relief and could close the gap.
The card starts with a competitive maiden. Coccolina, a close second on debut, is expected to progress, though Light The Fire and Devoted warrant respect. In the second, Vencedor improved over a mile last time, while Director and Pied Piper also look ready to strike.
Michael Roberts’ Call Me Wild stands out as one of the stronger bets, narrowly beaten last time on this course and now drawn well. Zara’s Winter and Carnival Park lead the Pick 6 opener.
Later, the seventh is packed with chances: Ladybug, Rugger Lover, Avernian Goddess, and Siberian Winter are all in with claims. In the eighth, Fortune rides Golden Moment, who shaped well on stable debut and can deliver.
The finale sees Alyson Wright field a powerful hand with Position Of Power, Blazing Beauty, and Phutulicious, all capable of ending the evening strongly.
