Stuart Ferrie ended last season with a Group 1 HKJC Champions Stakes win and looks to continue that momentum when filly Hodgepodge tackles male rivals in Sunday’s Gallop TV Midlands Stakes at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It’s a wide-open handicap, but her consistency, first-time blinkers and light weight make her an attractive value bet.
Plum Pudding and Royal Invitation both come in well treated after narrow defeats to Trois Trois Quatre last time and should be right there again. Queue Wing is another consistent type, now with a stronger apprentice aboard after an unlucky ride last start.
In the opener, Iconic Winter looks the standout, though debutants could surprise. Hollandia Bakkerij and Higher Love are expected to improve. Similarly, in Race 2, Royal Sword sets the standard after a much better second run, but market moves around first-timers should be watched closely.
Cape trainer Candice Bass-Robinson’s Mrs Stormiatrix showed marked progress with blinkers and looks a strong chance against Glen Kotzen’s well-drawn Act Of Grace. Cool Wind could be one for outsiders.
Mike Miller fields three in Race 4, with Warrior Royale the likely pick despite a layoff. Stablemates Sovereign Grant and Magical View are not without hope, while One Smart Cookie is dangerous at a big price.
Prankster is one of the stronger bets despite this being an apprentice race. She’s in solid form, though Quentasia and Janes Vision both warrant respect.
Race 7 looks competitive: Quinn’s Time can rebound, La Maddalena has course form, and Angel Of My Heart could be a value play.
The finale sees Mohave Prince aiming to back up a narrow maiden win, though Master Du Rouvary appeals as progressive. Run To Rio and Ferrie’s World Of Our Own are also capable of featuring.
