RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: TURFFONTEIN STANDSIDE@2025.08.02

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R100.000, 12:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Well-bred ON THE RUN was backed on debut when finishing 3rd over this track and trip. She would have come on with the benefit of that run so should play a leading role with natural improvement expected. DONDOYAKI, MIDNIGHT MIRACLE and MASTER’S LADY all have the form and experience to trouble the selection. Watch betting on newcomer KORCULA.

Selections: #7 On The Run, #6 Master’s Lady, #2 Midnight Miracle, #1 Dondoyaki

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R105.000, 12:40GMT+2

Race Summary: SIMBINE, BINGO and BRIGITTE ANNE are closely matched on the form of their course-and-distance meeting in early June, and there shouldn’t be much separating the trio again on identical weight terms. SO AMERICAN, WILLOW CHARM and FIFTY WAYS have earning potential too. Watch the betting on newcomers DISTRICT ATTORNEY and SINGLE COMBAT.

Selections: #2 Bingo, #8 Brigitte Anne, #1 Simbine, #6 Fifty Ways

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100.000, 13:15GMT+2

Race Summary: ZAHRA DOMINIA improved to finish a staying-on 2nd over track and trip last time and should play a leading role if making further progress. HEAVENLY GOOD will have benefitted from her introductory outing over 1160m and on pedigree this extended trip should be more to her liking. However, on the evidence of her eye-catching debut 3rd over 1200m, KENSAL GREEN should also have more to offer stretching out to this trip with that experience to count on. TAKING A RISK appeals most of the remainder.

Selections: #6 Kensal Green, #8 Zahra Dominia, #5 Heavenly Good, #2 Taking A Risk

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R150.000, 13:50GMT+2

Race Summary: TRUTH had legitimate excuses for a disappointing last start in a Grade 3 over 1200m but a return to this distance without the headgear he wore last time will suit. Last-start winners TEXAS RED (best-weighted runner), BACCHUS (unbeaten over track and trip), and ARGO ALLEY, remain competitive under resultant penalties. FIRE ‘N FLAMES and GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE complete the shortlist.

Selections: #3 Truth, #1 Texas Red, #6 Bacchus, #4 Fire ‘N Flames

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 5, Gallops, 2850m, Turf, R120.000, 14:25GMT+2

Race Summary: TO THE RESCUE and MO MENT were outclassed in a Grade 3 last month but should fare better at this level. They’re closely matched on earlier form and there shouldn’t be much between them on these revised weight terms. Hard-knocker ROMEO’S MAGIC has a bit to find on those rivals but is unexposed beyond 2600m. Lightly raced ENFLAME is maturing and also open to improvement over this extended distance. ROYAL MAZARIN and DAMOVA are veteran stayers with earning potential too.

Selections: #1 To The Rescue, #2 Mo Ment, #3 Enflame, #4 Romeo’s Magic

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R150.000, 15:00GMT+2

Race Summary: THE EQUATOR fluffed his lines on his eagerly anticipated South African debut but the lightly raced 5yo entire is held in high regard and open to improvement with blinkers refitted. Well-weighted HOTARUBI finished ahead of that rival last time and is weighted to confirm that form. Joint best-weighted KING’S EXPRESS has thrived this year and won his last 3 starts outings over 1800m, so rates the one to beat on these favourable terms. WECANGOALLNIGHT, STREET ART and ROYAL EDITION could have more to offer off their reduced ratings.

Selections: #3 King’s Express, #2 Hotarubi, #1 The Equator, #7 Royal Edition

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R120.000, 15:35GMT+2

Race Summary: STREWN SKY was caught the eye on his Highveld reappearance last time when staying on to finish 3rd over a shorter trip in his first start for the new yard. Last-start winner PRINCESS ILARIA remains competitive under a 3-point penalty, while class-droppers SKITTLE SKIES and FUTURE DATE, as well as bottom-weight IMPACT INVESTOR, should make their presence felt too. Hard-knockers EIFFEL TOWER, UNSOLVED RIDDLE and POCKET WATCH aren’t taken lightly either off their current marks.

Selections: #3 Strewn Sky, #4 Eiffel Tower, #2 Princess Ilaria, #9 Impact Investor

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 8, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R150.000, 16:15GMT+2

Race Summary: WILLIAM ROBERTSON wasn’t disgraced in a 1200m Grade 1 last week. He won at the highest level over this track and trip last season and is weighted to resume winning ways. However, progressive MOUNT PINATUBO will pose a threat a in his bid to preserve an unbeaten course-and-distance record. READY TO CHARGE, QUANTUM THEORY and DREAMLAND also have the form and experience at this level to acquit themselves competitively.

Selections: #1 William Robertson, #4 Mount Pinatubo, #6 Quantum Theory, #7 Dreamland

Turffontein Standside, 02.08.2025, Race 9, Gallops, 1160m, Turf, R100.000, 16:50GMT+2

Race Summary: ONE TIGER failed to confirm the progress of his previous start (maiden win) last time but was subsequently gelded and remains open to improvement, especially with the blinkers removed. PHALA MILLION, VALIEVA and CAPTAIN EFFICIENT are hard knockers at this level with the means to play leading roles. LIFE GOES ON, MARIACHI MADNESS and GOLDEN ASPEN fit a similar profile so they can’t be taken lightly either.

Selections: #2 Valieva, #7 Mariachi Madness, #1 One Tiger, #5 Phala Millions

Best Win: #6 KENSAL GREEN

Best Value Bet: #3 STREWN SKY

Best Longshot: #3 STREWN SKY
