A number of runners will be backing up from last Sunday’s program this weekend and one of those is FROM THE NAVY, who is engaged in the 1020m Class 5A contest (Race 2). The Charles Leck trained gelding will be having its second run back in the grade after finishing runner up over 1150m six days ago. TYPHOON could provide the value coming off the freshen up where he faded out of the placings over 1700m on June 15. Back to the sprint trip and his third appearance back in Class 5 company could see the six-year-old strike for the first time this year.
PALETAS has one of the best first up records going around (7:4-0-1) and is a winning chance when he resumes in the 1020m Class 4A contest (Race 4). The nine-year-old has only had the two runs in separate preparations boasting a perfect record in Malaysia. Leading throughout on both occasions, PALETAS draws deep but has the pace to overcome the barrier with M Zaki astride. PACIFIC ANGEL draws the outside but is a proven performer at this level and is racing in good form. The seven-year-old mare acquitted herself quite well when placed fourth in a strong Class 3 race two weeks back and is a three-time winner at the track and distance.
RED SUN took 23 starts to finally break his maiden tag back in March but the six-year-old has continued to improve vastly since then as he backs up from last weekend in the 1400m Class 4B event (Race 6). The gelding is yet to miss the place from five runs in the grade and delivered his first Class 4 success two runs back over Saturday’s journey. RED SUN is a versatile performer producing some nice efforts from wide barriers recently and from barrier five he can quickly atone from his recent defeat. LIM’S UNIQUE has been descending in the ratings over the past few weeks and is working up to a win while COMMANDER is weighted highly but will be suited by the distance rise.
NO MORE DELAY delivered his first Class 3 success at big odds-on June 29 but proved that run was no fluke with a third placing in the G1 Perak Gold Vase three weeks ago. The seven-year-old heads the weights in the 1200m Class 3 (Race 7) and appears well handicapped. THUNDEROUS is a progressive type capable of winning in the higher grades following his last two efforts against strong opposition. Placed fourth in the 4YO Sprint Championship, the gelding then went on to finish runner up in the 1300m RM 100,000 A Plus Selangor Silver on July 20 and cannot be underestimated in Class 3 company.
SHINJUKU simply had no luck in the Selangor Mile a fortnight ago and will find Saturday’s contest more to its liking. Engaged in the 1600m Class 4A contest (Race 8), the former Australian galloper was tightened for racing room over the concluding stages in the one-million-ringgit feature. The gelding goes up 6.5kg the weights but the Simon Dunderdale / Bernardo Pinheiro combination has been a formidable one striking at 39% over the past twelve-month period. V’INVINCIBLE and PACIFIC STAR are both coming off last start wins in the same grade and are worth adding to the exotics.
