Goodwood | Race 1: 3yo 0-105 Handicap
My first ride on Wednesday is OMNI MAN for Joseph [O’Brien]. I haven’t ridden him before, but he was a very good fifth in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was impressive at Roscommon the time before that, winning by 7½ lengths. He has some decent form, is lightly raced, and has improved for stepping up in trip. This is probably a similar type of race to Royal Ascot, although it’s a smaller field than you’d normally get. I’d say he has leading claims.
Goodwood | Race 2: Group 3 HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes
TABITI is a daughter of Kingman and this will be the first time I’m riding her. She won on her first career start last year and then took the Group 3 Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury, before being well beaten in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket. It was a respectable return when third in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot and she drops back to seven furlongs (1400m) in this which will hopefully be in her favour.
She seems to have a leading form chance here, but it’s a tricky race with a big field of fillies lining up. Cloud Cover sets the standard after her impressive win in Listed company at Chelmsford, but her form might just be a bit stronger on a synthetic surface. Jasna’s Secret has won a couple of Listed races in France, while Formal also won the Listed Surrey Stakes at Epsom. Plenty of the others have some decent form, so it looks a pretty open race.
Goodwood | Race 3: Group 3 HKJC World Pool Molecomb Stakes
LADY IMAN is a nice ride to pick up in the Molecomb for Ger Lyons. She has to carry a penalty for her Group 3 win at Naas over six furlongs (1200m) in May. She won her first three starts and we then beat her with Beautify at the Curragh, who is a filly we like. The step down to five furlongs (1000m) should be in her favour and she probably sets the standard here.
Military Code ran well at Sandown earlier this month and I would say he has the second best form in the race. Ameeq was fourth behind Charles Darwin in the Norfolk and Dickensian was second to Havana Hurricane in the Windsor Castle, so they have both run to a fair level.
Goodwood | Race 4: Group 1 Sussex Stakes
The Sussex is the big race on Wednesday and I’m looking forward to getting back on HENRI MATISSE. He’s been in good form this year, winning his first start at Leopardstown and then beating Jonquil in the French 2000 Guineas. He was beaten by Field Of Gold in the St James’s Palace and we have a bit of work to do to turn that form around. He’s been getting better with every start, though, and hopefully he can improve a bit more.
Field Of Gold has a very similar profile to his father, Kingman. He was very impressive at Royal Ascot the last day. We’re either going to have to raise our game or we’ll need him to underperform. Rosallion was a very good three-year-old. He stepped forward from the Lockinge in the Queen Anne at Ascot and he may improve again. Docklands won the race at Ascot, although he seems to reserve his best form for there. Carl Spackler had some good form in the US, and he ran well in the Queen Anne. He is an interesting runner in this.
