Take debut winners to keep unbeaten records intact

Exciting two-year-old fillies Littlemissmillion and Gimmeforsure put their unbeaten records on the line at Turffontein on Thursday 26 June. The Inside track at the ‘Big T’ hosts a nine-event midweek fixture that features several attractive betting propositions, including both of the aforementioned first-up scorers.

Elusive Fort filly Littlemissmillion may have attracted outside betting support on debut – shortened from 33-1 to start at odds of 20-1 on her first day at school – but outran market expectations, even surprising her connections by running out an authoritative winner by 3.10 lengths under apprentice Nirvan Nastili on Vaal’s Classic track in mid-May. She belied her inexperience that day, overcoming a tardy start before displaying an impressive turn of foot to score over 1600m.

The Tyrone Zackey-trained youngster would’ve come on appreciably from that introductory outing and she is the only runner in Race 1 to have won over the distance, so that stands her in good stead, especially against fellow last-start winners Schipole and Waiting On Charlie who shed their maiden tags recently over slightly shorter.

Championship-chasing rider Craig Zackey takes over the reins from Nastili aboard Littlemissmillion who is open to any amount of improvement and good value to preserve her unblemished record.

Mike & Mathew de Kock-trained Gimmeforsure, on the other hand, was well fancied on debut and rock solid in the betting exchanges. This well-related daughter of Gimmethegreenlight was sent off at 22-10 and duly delivered for her supporters under Callan Murray over 1000m on the Standside track.

She reappears over the same distance in Race 7 with Muzi Yeni in the irons and just 53,5kg on her back, so is also worth a confident punt on the nose. The De Kocks’ charge faces several lightly raced three-year-old rivals and other hard-knockers but, given the manner of her debut success – albeit in juvenile company – over male rivals, any natural improvement from Gimmeforsure will likely land her back in the winner’s enclosure.

Elsewhere on the card, Stay Tuned is another of Zackey’s mounts it should pay to follow. He rides this Sean Tarry inmate, who also caught the eye on debut, in Race 4 over 1500m. This Futura gelding flew late to finish a close-up third on debut over 1400m and the extra 100m, with that experience to count on, will be right up his alley.
