
A bumper 13 race program took place on Sunday the 15th of June at the Selangor Turf Club which included three feature races including the Korea Racing Authority Trophy; TNI Charity Cup and the RM200,000 4 Year Old Sprint Championship.
The first of the three feature races was the Korea Racing Authority Trophy over 1020m on Track 2 which saw Filial Dragon defy the step up in class to beat the favourite Bransom who never had the best of luck racing wide throughout. KC Wong was aboard the winner for the J Ong stable, who celebrated four winners on the day, and in winning the race actually set a new track record in a blistering time of 57,9 seconds. Another special mention for this win has to go to the stable as this was Filial Dragon’s third consecutive week of racing with two wins and a second in the three week span.
The second of the feature races was the certainly the headline race for the day, The 4 Year Old Sprint Championship for a stake of RM200,000. This saw a feature race double for the Ong stable as Pacific Victory made it back to back wins under PH Seow and certainly stamps his authority as one of the leading lights in the Selangor Mile next month for RM 1 000 000. Antipodean gave another honest run in third and will certainly be a live danger for the Selangor Mile and Valois caught the eye running on from well back in the field.
The last of the feature races was the TNI Charity Cup which saw Gulf Eagle return to the winners box after a perfectly timed ride by Al Da Silva for the R Lines runner. The pace was on up in front and Da Silva just allowed the leaders to go at a quick pace in front without getting too involved and managed to effortlessly to slot into a one out position and wait for the final 400m to make his winning move. Gulf Eagle has now notched up his fifth win in the country with much to the delight of his owners and connections.
J Ong was certainly the leading light for the day with four winners but the day was shared with all of S Dunderdale; R Lines and CC Ooi saddling a double on the day. Of the jockeys, L De Souza rode a treble but not far off him was PH Seow; B McDougall; CK Khaw and Al Da Silva who all rode a double on the day.
Racing returns to the Selangor Turf Club on Sunday the 22nd of June as the countdown is well and truly underway for Malaysia’s richest race – The Selangor Mile – which is just over a month away for a stake of RM 1 000 000.
